OK here's where I'm at with the server. As mentioned in one of my recent messages, my Minecraft account is broken and there's no way to fix it so I'd have to purchase a new account. I don't have much free time to play and I'm not really into it anymore, instead preferring to play WoT.

Since the update to 1.7.10 the server side of stuff has become about 10x more complicated with stupid .json files to contend with, something to stop admins hacking player's accounts apparently. Despite my best attempts I'm unable to edit the whitelist to allow new players as for reasons unknown it doesn't like the format, even though it's an exact copy of the lines above so it should work. The only other way to add or edit the whitelist is from the in game console commands. Now if I had a working account then I could do that myself and all would be well, but as I can't log in to the game, I can't.

The long and short of it is that I'm out as 1. I don't play the game anymore and 2. I have no patience for unnecessarily complicated hassle like this. Looking at the server activity logs it's basically not been played by anyone for nearly 3 months so whilst I said I'd pay to keep it going there's got to be a point where you have to draw a line. This is it and I'm no longer prepared to keep funding it nor continue being admin. The server is up for renewal for this month as I write and because it's overdue I'm unable to download the world until it's been paid. If you want to keep the current world then someone will need to step forward and pay for it (£15/month) and take on the role of admin, which is easy enough with access to the in game server commands (which I no longer have due to my broken account). If there's no response by the end of Sunday then both the current world and the server will close.

I do not mind contributing to a server if people are going to play otherwise I might as well play on my own frown

The current server is too quiet, it doesn't take long for me to get bored if I'm on by myself. If a server was busier, I would be more inclined to play

I'm thinking about setting up a MC Realms account. The old server ain't accessible anymore, and I now find playing MC in a single player world kinda pointless, so having a proper vanilla MC PH server through Realms seems like the way to go.

The sub is £8 a month ( or less if you buy a few months), and I'd be happy to be admin. and pay the sub. The odd donation to the cause would be welcome, but not necessary.

It'd be pure vanilla MC with no mods.

Waddaya think? Any takers?

With realms? Yeah I'm interested. Can we get some more (non phers) involved, to keep it busy?

I'd be interested for sure - a big project to keep people interested would be good ala the cathedral but that can come in time?
Speaking of time I am somewhat short of it at the mo though like working with others on projects.......

Is this post a wind up? So 1 week ago I made it clear that I was exiting the game and server hosting leaving it open for any interested parties to come forward and take over, thus keeping the many hours of work and progress already done. Result? Deathly silence.

Now 1 week later you want to set up another server running the same vanilla minecraft. How exactly is this any different from the server that I'd been paying for for months that no-one has bothered to play on for the past 3-4 months?

I give up....

Think its a good idea, but personally i run out of idea fairly quickly with vanilla, hence why i prefer the modded side of things, if the you was interested in maybe going down that route, as i stated before i would be very happy to chip in with admin costs and server maintenance.

Jazz- the realms side of things adds a bit more playability to the game and can make it last longer. Don't take it personally. It would be good to get a new server set up and everyone online again

Please explain to me what this additional "playability" is you speak of that an identical vanilla server (ie. the one I've been paying for) does not provide. Realms is exactly the same as what you've just had except that Mojang are the server host and from the lag experiences with the original realms server we had, they're not very good at it.

Isn't realms the world you access through the linking book? It generates a new random world with odd outcomes.

You're thinking of Feed the Beast/one of the modpacks included in FTB.

Realms is a service the Mojang do where they host your server for you.

If someone is setting a realm up let me know as I'd be interested in joining in.

Aaaah, realms. Ok. My bad.

As all that jazz says, if there's already a server set up, why don't we all play on that instead?
