Minecraft - £8 Very well spent
Discussion
Can't do owt Steve. As suspected, no 1.8 game server on the portal yet. I've sent a ticket but won't be able to do anything til the morning as I'm away to work shortly. I've also just realised that the "1.8" tunnel we've done is going to put us in the middle of a huge snow area and the new portal may link up with one of the existing ones. It might be best to extend the tunnel to reach 6k overworld rather than 5k to ensure we get the new terrain gen.

So we need to make it at least another 125 blocks longer right?WildCards said:

So we need to make it at least another 125 blocks longer right?I've dug a tunnel from -600 to -750 in nether and set up a portal but it needs floor and track extending if you or Tom (or anyone else) fancies it. I've set up a reciprocate portal on the other side and it is in a snow biome (with ice spikes nearby) as expected. It is new terrain gen too, there's diorite, andesite and granite everywhere - it's about as common as gravel and dirt in caves, probably even more so. The polished andesite looks really nice and quite liking the polished granite too but not keen on the polished diorite but it does blend well with the snow. I've knocked up a small safe house for the portal with the new blocks collected so you can see them together.
For those wanting to visit the new terrain gen for all the stuff added in 1.8 you'll need to go minimum 5000 blocks from 0,0. Me, Steve and Tom dug a nether tunnel with a rail track for easy access between current builds and new terrain gen. You can access it by going into nether via main spawn portal then following the sandstone round where the pictures are and up the minecart elevator - remember to take a minecart with you. When you get to a gap around Y120, jump out of minecart (hold forwards key and press left shift at same time). You'll see tunnel and rail track. Follow that to the end and there's a portal there at -750 0 which takes you to new terrain.
Too knackered to play today and working tonight . I wonder who will be first to find the new ocean fortresses?!
Oh, and is anyone else's crosshair fked up with 3 rainbow coloured lines or just mine?

There is a water fortress to the north in the new chunks following Rob's instructions above. I've completely gutted it today, however, there is another which remains untouched just a little further north of that. They're fairly huge structures, take plenty of ladders and torches with you.
Out of interest, will anyone be getting this on the Xbox One? Out this Friday.

Just noticed it has gone live on Ps4, think I'll get it later. Must have been a year or so since I last played on PC.http://news.xbox.com/2014/09/games-minecraft-launc...
Is anyone else getting noticeable lag on the PC server? I've raised the issue with the host as there was a spell yesterday night when it was generating "can't keep up!" errors in the server log for about 30 mins between 2115-2145 too, but I'm getting about 1 second lag in the 1.8 terrain now as well (nothing in server log this time).
Edit: Just rebooted server and is okay now. Also, one nice change I've noticed is that packed ice can now be mined at the same speed as ice blocks with silk touch pick. Packed ice used to take forever to mine but now you can rip through a full stack of it in seconds.

Improvements to mobs' behavior and AI :
Most mobs can now swim; notably, Slimes
Most mobs can now pathfind as zombies have; notably, angry Zombie Pigmen
Skeletons flee from wolves
Spiders no longer see players through solid blocks
Iron Golems attack Creepers
Babies' growth can be accelerated by feeding them
Most mobs will flee from a Creeper about to explode
Creepers, Skeletons, Wither Skeletons and Zombies drop their heads when killed by charged Creepers
Don't know if that one will affect your slime farm, Tom?Most mobs can now swim; notably, Slimes

This explains how a fecking creeper managed to work its way around my fecking roof yesterday and drop on my head.
Normal mobs have been able to do that for a long time, but the ZPM can now do it too, instead of YOLOing off the edges of netherack cliffs trying to get you./\

Ocean monument finder for our world : http://chunkbase.com/apps/ocean-monument-finder#-8...
There probably won't be any monument within 5k of 0,0 but the guardians will be spawning. I have this at my island base, loads of guardians but no monument. I loaded the world in a 1.8 single player game and the monument was there so it must be because our server world was started in 1.6 and the monuments don't generate in already explored chunks. Handy as I can make a guardian mob trap for shards right next to my base.
