so I would expect you to have to use the controller a lot on games. The move will mostly be used for conceptual control schemes.
im hoping socom 4 (I was never off Socom/Socom2 on the ps2) will be good with the move controllers as they have specifically mentioned its fully set/compatible

I've seen footage from a move enabled version of (I think) killzone, the gun was able to be used to pull you down behind cover and peek out again! It looks pretty awesome!

Don't bother, sell the PS3 and get an Xbox with Kinect http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/kinect/
why? have you played with both systems and know the kinect to be better - even though its not out yet?

Its certainly the Move ive been most looking forward to.. given it can work with shooters etc
the kinect just looks like a controllerless wii (fit) basically (certainly from that video)..
Lets face it, they'll all end up like the Wii, being a "gimmick" and everyone will end up coming back to the controller once the the "It's new!" has worn off.

But the Kinect has the most potential, as without any controllers you've got the movement of your whole body rather than just two points of reference.

But hey, in 12 months it'll all be for nothing. Remember the Nintendo PowerGlove? No? wink

Not so sure.

I LOVED Call of Duty on the Wii, the controller was fantastic and the gameplay was superb. BUT the graphics are 10 times better on the PS3 so I used that instead (took me ages to use my thumbs to aim). Now, combining the PS3 graphics with the Wii controller is what I said would make an utterly awesome console, so I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I agree. And having bought a move dcensoreddo (sorry conrtroller) today I'm mighty impressed, makes the Wii feel like threading a needle wearing boxing gloves to be honest. Hopefully it wont be a fad and it gets some decent game support. The Kinect thingy does look impressive too but I just cant see how your going to feel any conectivity with the game without a physical controler. How do you aim and move in an FPS at the same time for a start?

Amazon are already discounting this. They've knocked a fiver off the price of the starter pack - http://www.playstationmove.org.uk/

Oh and I feel duty bound to tell PHers that if you were to go into Sainsbury you may well find a 320GB PS3 with Move Controller Starter pack for £240. Yes, you read that correctly.... Call ahead and reserve yours, because they are selling like hot cakes...

it's better than the wii by a long shot. It is far more accurate and if you try the tumble demo you will see this very clearly. The ability the "reach in" to the screen is also very cool and shows just how accurate the camera is at knowing where the controller is at all times. The wii is great, but this is a huge step forward.

Are you comparing Move to the standard Wii controller or to the Wii remote with Wii MotionPlus? People seem to forget about this addon, which is a shame as it really improved things for the Wii. The standard Wii motion control is pretty poor.

Wii Plus.

The Move has more sensors inside it and is also actively tracked by the Playstation eye camera at the same time. Both the Wiimote and PS move detect gestures including both linear and rotational acceleration and orientation, but the PS Move has full 3D position tracking which the Wii does not. The Wiimote and sensor bar detects rough 2D position (and it can detect full 3D acceleration), only the PS Move can detect full absolute 3D "position" (you can swing the Wii plus towards the screen and the accelerometer can detect the movement, with the move you can move as slowly as you want and the whole time it is in the correct position on screen, it's shockingly good in the respect).
The move also has the ablity to (very) accurately detect "twist" in a way that the Wii Plus cannot (Wii Plus doesn't even have the required gyro to do this AFAIK). Put this in simple terms, playing table tennis you can very accurately put spin on the ball by twisting the face of the paddle just as you would in a real game by twisting the controller on it's center axis just as you hit the ball. I've come a croper a few times by hitting the ball skyward as I had twisted the face of the paddle almost 90deg flat and hit the bottom of the ball... DOH)

I guess you have to play it to fully understand what I mean but trust me, the Wii plus is very good, but the move has a level of accuracy and finess that is way better.

All that being said, the Wii has a year plus of good software so lets see how fast sony can catch up, looking at the planned releases the future looks pretty bright smile

All I want is fking keyboard and mouse support for games.
I don't want this motion bullst.

All the consoles have USB ports now and it's insane not to allow use of KB/Mouse.

That's down to the game developers though. You can already connect a keyboard and mouse to the PS3 (either cabled or bluetooth) for the internet browser. It just needs the developers to recognise this and provide the control options... not the hardware manufacturers fault.

Tell me about it !

But I think there is another reason why I can't get the hang of the normal PS3 controller; This may sound odd, but when I play PC games I am sitting at my desk ( in my office, as I work from home ) and it's my space, so I can do what I like without disturbing any body else. Buy with my PS3 I'm in my living room, so I'd only use it when I was alone in the house so I don't intrude. Does that sound odd ?

No, that's the same as me. I have my PC in my office and the PS3 and big TV is in the lounge.

I'm trying to play MW2 at the moment and not getting on with the controller. Normally I play fps on the PC and other games on the PS3, some games just work better with a controller.

On topic, if the move has some good games then that will replace the wii. The wii has not been used for about a year and then it's mostly for wii sports. Although kinect is clever I can't see it having the accuracy of Move.

I can't see how the Kinect is going to transfer over to complex moves in any kind of game, unless its a literal thing like punching and kicking in a fight game or jumping around in a dance game. Move could work because as well as moving the things around, its got a trigger and 'bumper' button, analogue stick, directional buttons, the 4 shape buttons and the Move button. You've still got most of the functions of a controller there.

Does anyone else play video games because they can't do the things they do in video games, in real life?

I can't fight in real life. I can mash a controller with my palm.

All these things seem gimmicky as hell but I have to admit that the playstation Move is the one I would go for if someone held a gun to my bks and gave me the money to buy one..

Got the amazing sainsbury deal. The table tennis is flipping amazing, I think tonight I'm going to go out and buy the full sports champions game. Do you need another controller for the sword fighting?

I bought it at the weekend - it's very good. The table tennis is top drawer. Some of the others need two controllers but you can play with one, but it's not a good.

i just picked up a second controller today but cant get it to work with the archery at all..
i think i maybe need to move the camera ontop of the tv rather than below (but the tv is too thin), although it works perfectly for everything else.. bit strange but cant get the bow to look anywhere but the floor.
maybe im just not doing it right!.. got frustrated so didnt try again.

really dont think you need 2 anyway, although i did enjoy having a dedicated shield on the gladiator game. hehe my right arm hasnt ached so much since i was a young single man.
really impressed with the move.

cant wait for some (proper) shooter games now!
