Guvernator said: McSam said: If the upgraded KV feels slow, don't rush to get a KV-3 Really? That doesn't bode well. I was saving for the KV-3 to take advantage of the upcoming patch but if it's slower than the KV, it might frustrate the hell out of me! Is saving blowing all that XP on the KV-3 really worth it. What will the patch actually give me for free? As far as I can see it just upgrades the KV-3 tier? Why is this worth it? Also is the KV-IS any better? Ah but with the KV-3, the turrent can rotate in less than a day. I quite enjoy playing it, and find it different enough to the KV I've still got in the garage to be fun. Lower profile turret helps a lot too. KV-1S looks like a good tank from others I've seen playing it - seems to be a fast, nimble KV that still packs a punch.

Yep I am enjoying playing the KV actually but the two things that annoy me about it are the speed, lack of armour and traverse speed all of which are improved on thr KV-1S which sounds like it might be perfect. However the upcoming patch is supposed to give you an advantage if you own the KV and KV-3. Can anyone explain what this will be?

Conversely, I loooooved the T28 with a juicy gun. You can do a lot of damage to some big stuff if you lurk well. The one redeeming feature of the A-20 is its wonderful ability to be one shotted by the T25. I get quite disappointed when they stagger off with <10HP remaining. One A-20 driver the other day threatened to report me for tracking him and removing 98% of his HP in one shot. He seemed to think that doing this at medium range was hacking. No idea if he did report me or not; I didn't care, and was too busy to respond. Not surprisingly, it's a bloody awful tank to drive. As above, I much preferred the T-28, despite its similar ability to get killed almost instantly.

The KV3 has much better armour than the KV though, it definitely feels like a superior tank to the KV. It actually starts to feel like you are driving a heavy tank. It is a little flammable though. Its probably worth getting so you get free tanks to keep or sell.

The patch is quite straightforward to explain:
If you have a KV in the garage and the KV-2 turret (the big box) researched, whether or not it's owned or fitted, you will be given the KV-1 (tier 5) and KV-2 (tier 6). The KV-1 will keep your old KV crew, the KV-2 will come with a new one trained to 100%.
The KV-3 is becoming tier 7 and being rebalanced, so expect it to gain better top guns, better armour, and it might get better engines too. If you have a KV-3 in the garage, you keep it with the same crew and it simply becomes the "new" tier 7 KV-3. Anything you have researched in the KV-3 before the patch will be available (or its equivalent will be) in the tier 7 version of the tank.
The advantage of having a KV before the patch is clear, and pretty substantial! As far as the KV-3 is concerned, a tier 7 version of it would have a much higher points and credits cost, so you make a massive shortcut by getting one researched and bought before the patch comes in. Same goes for all its modules, they'll need more points and be more expensive, so I'm trying to get as much done as I can!
Re. the KV-3 itself as a tank, it's not that slow with the top engine, don't worry, it's just as standard. It's a good tank - imagine a KV with its glaring flaws removed and you're about there, and you can mount the same ZiS-6 so you have a decent gun straight away.
The KV-1S is a lovely thing to drive, fast and sharp as some mediums, but a respectable gun is 17,000XP away and it isn't heavily armoured enough to go head-on with anything above its tier, so it's a harder tank to use immediately.
If I was going to recommend only one, it would be the KV-3, as although I have both and get on with them both fine, my KV-3 does more useful things in battle.
It's also worth noting that the KV-1S will, after the patch, lead to the IS line of heavies, while the KV-3 will go down a separate, heavier KV- line.

I sold my KV to buy the KV3, I'd better buy another one before the patch!

Talking of the patch ("released at the end of April"... 2013?), anyone any idea if it's worth getting the biggest gun on the IS4 before the patch? I can't tell if it'll save or cost in the longer run...

I would get it, you will have the top gun on two tanks then.
The patch is probably only a few days away now as well.

Can anyone explan the random battle selections? I seem to end up way out of my depth half the time with the majority of tanks being high level which I cannot touch.
In the other battles where the sides are even it if far better and I can do quite well, even managed to counter the artillery in one battle which was nice. Currently enjoying the Vk3001H with the 88, can see me keeping this one even when I have levelled up as it seems good for its tier at range.

If you're in with high tier tanks the idea is you scout.....so go and aprk behind a bush somewhere and don't move! You'll get points for detecting the other teams tanks and even better if Arty take them out whilst you are detecting them. Or you could try finding their Arty....it's amazing how many teams leave wide open gaps and leave their arty totally exposed.

If someone on your team damages an enemy that you are spotting for them, ie. they can't see it themselves, you get half their points for the damage caused. This is especially useful for artillery, but a lot of the time snipers like TDs can't see their own targets and need someone like the papier mache A-20 to spot for them. It's a better earner than you might think, and it's also often better to hold your fire and stay hidden!

Not all tanks are good for bush scouting. Even if you are bottom of the pack there will still be tanks that you can damage. Even the biggest tanks are vulnerable from the sides and rear. Use the mediums speed and agility to try and flank and get into good spotting positions. Go with the other mediums on your team in a group, you might be surprised how effective it can be. Even keeping a bigger tank tracked can be very useful to your team and arty.

The patch is probably only a few days away now as well. Patch is absolutely guaranteed to be this weekend as I am away from my PC for 3 days. I've been sitting on an KV, KV-3 and SU-100 for months now waiting for this. As well as carrying on griding my T-43 and IS. Got so far with XP, then had to start a US TD and German Medium tank line to give me some tanks to play in earnest. Be good to give my garage a clearout once the patch is out and use some of those free slots. I want to start down the US tank tree so I can get me a T-29 which seems laughably impregnable.

This happened the other day... little tank died with me shouting "draw him out! Tempt him! THEN I can hit him!" at the screen.

What is it with the latest fashion of the whole team travelling together, thereby leaving the arty completely open?

Yeah, I forgot to mention - as with any updates, you get free slots for any tanks you're being given
