Just FYI, the Designated Target thing doesn't work in artillery's top-down view, only when you have direct line of sight yourself.

For Sixth Sense, how exactly does that work? I know it brings an indicator on three seconds after you're spotted, which then goes away whether or not you're still visible, but is that just the first time you're detected in the game? Or does it reappear each time an enemy uncovers you? If the latter, I think it'd be pretty useful smile

It does work more than once....as I just found out on my GW Type E. And yes we did lose the battle!

Despite how frustrating it can get, with the occasional one shot deaths, death by fire, death by permatracking, ammo racking and engine damage making it a chore, this is all counterbalanced by the odd game where you do well.

Or not; I just had a game where I didn't get a single kill, though I did a fair amount of damage, and all hope seemed lost....but, moral of the story - never give up.

So, Karelia, starting NW. Move out in the M26 in a T9 battle, being middle of the team, 3 big arties a side. Head to the NE with a Patton and a KV-5, get held up and spotted by a Lowe, KV-5, Tiger, KV-1S.

A couple of people in the center, rest heading SE to the hill.

As is usual, turns in to a battle of attrition. I end up on my lonesome with the Tiger spotting me for arty and vice versa, so we end up taking the occasional careful potshot at each other, but for the most part concentrate on sniping at each others team mates in the center.

As my team in the center die, there's only the enemy Tiger and I left in the north, two enemy Tigers in the center, and 5 more enemy T7/8/9 heavies in the south, plus all 3 arties on each side.

So, 11 to 4. Marvellous. Another raping, joy.

Determined not to give up, I bait the Tiger near me out; he's only too willing as his team outnumbers ours heavily at this point - and track him twice in the open, where he gets obliterated by multiple tier 7 arty.

Wait a few seconds to lose their sight of me, then run back towards base, cutting SE to spot the middle, both Tigers get killed within 30 seconds of each other as I frantically try to avoid getting fatally artied in the open, losing half my HP in the process. 8 to 4. Still crap odds, but at least it isn't too embarrassing now.

Move towards the base of the hill to spot the rest of their team; obligingly a T29 is halfway up the hill and gets vaporised about 2 seconds after being spotted. Repeat, repeat, repeat, one of our arties gets counterbatteried, all in the course of about 40 seconds. So, down to a T34 on their side, plus 3 arties, and me with 2 arties. Much beeter odds. Edge forwards, there he is...was! 3 all. One minute from the T29 being spotted until that side was cleared.

Turn around, go to the N side, head in and cap their base with 15 secs to spare. Nice.

Lovely piece of teamwork; one of their arties tried to spot me just before I finished capping - he was targetted and would have been dead in another 5 seconds.

Nice one.

I have some dire games where I lose by one hit and all over.

Others today I have played artillery and been a battle hero with 3 kills and a bit of damage to others. Best today was using a medium tank (pzr3/4) where I rushed the oppo artillery, killed it and a few support and our team won overall.

Have to say a fast tank behind enemy lines killing the artillery seems to quickly turn the tide.

Nice one, Jim, enjoyed reading it and now I'll have to write up a similar minor epic I had in a KV a while ago now!

A small tank running in to nail the arty can help, if they're good and if your team are clever - you want to get sniping positions first, then send the light in, and let all the enemy turn their guns on him and reveal their positions! You can rip quite a few apart before they even get their guns turned round wink

The little epics are what make it worthwhile.

In my case, the only part I actually played worth mentioning after the first few minutes was the decsision to spot, instead of just run off and try to cap.

You BM2 guys need a word with your clan mates. Platooning two T95's together; seriously? Surely they know matchmaker throws wobblies when platooning high tier TD's together. Then they all sat in base which I would usually do apart from the fact I was the only other Tier 9 so went out and try to support the other tanks and pretty much got instantly BatChatted (predictably).

The E-75 is in the same platoon though. I take PPs comment to mean that all three BM2 members sat in base.

I could be reading it wrong....

Yes the BM2 E75 camped in base. If I had sat in base all the tier 9's would have been camping in base.

Yeah.

Got the IS4 after a lot of effort.

Strangely not as resilient when play with it as when attacking it.

The turret is very slow to turn, even a heavy ran round me last night and I couldn't keep up with my gun.

But at least it is better than the M18 (TD) managed 4 battle without getting a shot off.

I seem to get that with a lot of my tanks smile

(Bar the Hetzer and the KV: both tanks I'd considered cannon fodder when playing against them, both were immense for me once upgraded)

After getting a bit frustrated with the mid tier grind I've persevered with the KV a bit and done some upgrades. I've put the best engine on it which means it's now just slow rather than glacially slow. Also stuck on the "trollcannon" which is very fun and very frustrating in equal measure. Love the fact that you can sometimes shoot at even high tier tanks and just make them disappear but at other times you still get bounces or it misses totally. Seems to be next to useless at hitting anything above medium range.

Still I usually end the round with a few decent kills under my belt but then get tracked and killed by a couple of zippy scouts due to the traverse speed of a tortoise.

Now have a choice of where to spend my hard earned XP and money.

1) Purchase StugIII TD
2) Buy a KV-3 or KV-IS?
3) Buy the SU-8 arty?

What do people think will be a good money earner for next step while also being fun to play?

Glad to hear you're enjoying the KV with the trollcannon! Once you get used to it and ignore anyone over 300m away, it's so much fun. Use HE rounds wherever possible, as they still usually go through low stuff and destroy them outright, but will also do considerable damage to hier-tier tanks where AP would just bounce away.

Of the three you listed, definitely get a StuG. It's a little slow and undergunned to start with, but not too badly, and fully upgraded it's an outstanding tank which is fast and slightly overpowered for its tier. Lovely. It's a good earner too, being quick and able to penetrate almost anything it comes across! smile

The KV-3 or -1S will chew your credits and XP-earning time at this stage, it's good to have a few fully upgraded Tier 5s on the go to fund your further ventures and keep you entertained smile

Learnt about the trollcannon's uselessness at range the hard way. smile

Will give the StuG a try then. I need a good money maker.

I hated the StuG - glad to see it go. Hetzger seemed better to me.

The next one up with the 88 however........

Just watched a KV with trollcannon dish out 350-odd damage to an E-100! Soooo funny smile

I have just found the most frustrating tank/map combo - the KV with derp gun on Province. It's too slow and weakly armoured to survive trying to get down to the valley floor, and so inaccurate that you can't use it to snipe from the top of the hill.

Just had a game where not a single one of my shots hit anything. Unfortunately my team won, and my xp (x2 for the first game) isn't worth a mention, it was so appalingly little. Oh well, swings and roundabouts.
