Mine has just started to do this again. I was wondering, if I buy the 360 arcade which is very cheap, because it comes with no feautures, can I just stick my existing HDD in and be back in action?

Thank you.

Yeah thats what i did.

Got RROD on my xbox elite, purchasd the cheapo one, put my elite hard drive on the cheapo one and im away.

It was like 80 quid to repair my elite, i couldn't be bothered so just went and picked a new arcade for 110~.

The new 'S' models won't take the old style hard drive though.

Possibly opening myself up to being flamed here...

Basically my elite was RRoD'ing if it had been on/off/on but was fine from a cold start(not been on for hours)

So, I left it off all day Friday and traded it in against a new one on Saturday boxedin

Transfer is fairly easy -> use a USB drive, done in a few minutes, just did it last week.

If you get a new 250GB one, get a Kinect with it when you're at it, worth every penny biggrin
