Nice work Jon, shame about the Stella bottle caps rather than Nuka Cola though wink
LOL yes. True. But I think I can get away with that under the banner of "homage". hehe

Actually, a friend who I showed it to pointed me to a place where you can download & print out Nuka-Cola caps and also a label to make your own bottle of Buffout. Only I don't feel like doing the photo over again. smile

I'm really stuck.

I'm trying to do the House Always Wins quest.

I got the platinum chip and gave it to Mr House at the casino penthouse. I then went to the basement and saw his little Securitron show.

Then for part 2 I had to go the fort, I got to the fort via the little dock at Cottonwood Cove. I found building with the bunker and their is a console. I active the console and it says their is a round slot (which I presume is for the platinum chip) but I gave the chip to Mr House already ?

I don't know what to do! Is their another round key ? Mr House just said to go here...

Did he not give you the chip back? The slot needs the chip to open.

No he didn't frown

I don't want to start all over again. I don't have an old save to go back to.

I checked Ceasers place at the fort. (Since everyone here is dead) but no chip anywhere.

Restoring Hope - I can't do this for some reason. There is no one to ask about supplies at Helios one.
Wild Card - Change In Management
Wild Card - Side Bets
Wild Card - You and What Army (Can't do this as it needs me to go to the fort bunker...)
Heartache by the NUmber - all sub quests done but no new one appeard..
The House Always Wins 2 - (Can't do this as it needs me to go to the fort bunker...)

Brotherhood of Steel hates me.
NCR shoots at me.
Legion tries to kill me.

Hmmm. I can only suggest looking at the Wiki and seeing if you can work out what went wrong.

I am a little underwhelmed with NV. There are some great features like the new speech check system and true iron sights, but it doesn't feel as fresh as Fallout 3.

I bought it a little over a month ago on my brother's recommendation, I love Fallout 3 and according to him it's "a million times better".

I'd disagree. It doesn't feel like a wasteland for starters. There's no exploring for civilisation like on 3 - everywhere seems to be inhabited, and no epic cities like Rivet City. Las Vegas is horribly done on this game, there shouldn't be power on a post-apocalyptic doom game. In essence, civilisation seems to be doing rather well and is quite organised. I don't like that.

On Fallout 3, exploring was a major part of the fun for me. I remember escorting what's-his-face from Little Lamplight to Big town, as well as first discovering the deathclaw power plant type thing (and dying soon afterwards). NV seems to have lost this sense of immersion. It doesn't feel like a wasteland, with Helios One, Hoover Dam and all the other landmarks still standing. I know the Mojave wasn't supposed to have been hit hard, but this seems rather lazy IMO. I'd rather go exploring and discover a destroyed Hoover Dam if I'm honest.

The faction aspect had potential to be brilliant, it could have been like Morrowind, join a faction and rise through the ranks. I love doing this, NV seems to have missed a trick here. I do quest after quest for the NCR, yet I can't join them and they still don't really like me. I think in a game that has so many warring factions, you should be able to join and work for them.

One of the major improvements is the unique variants of weapons actually having unique visuals. This was seriously annoying on Fallout 3, definitely one of the best things about NV.

My biggest gripe with this game is the Legion. Apparently the main threat to the NCR and the free people of the Mojave, is a bunch of retards running round with skirts. Wow. I can not explain how disappointed I was with these fellas. I would much rather the main enemy be a group of organised raiders who have banded together. Also, working for the Legion is not fun at all, you can tell it was a bit tacked on.

The game engine is a bit out of date - this game is more buggy than it's prequel with the highly irritating freezes. It can't handle large fights and the combat is not improved at all. Aiming is not fluid enough, and you can't have high sensitivity. Slightly irritating, but the engine is still good so I'm not too fussed here.

Graphics wise, I'm again indifferent. Maybe because I have an old Scart TV that I play my games on, but the supposedly poor graphics don't bother me.

The guns have been improved greatly, honestly the best thing about this game. There's tons to play with, lots of fun shooting up Gomorrah with my new Trail Carbine, or my suppressed Varmint Rifle. Great idea the weapon attachments, adds a lot of replay value.

Another gripe is that I seem to have more useless st in my inventory than 3. It's more expensive to make ammo than it is to buy it, so all the cases and stuff get dropped, although they keep popping up for some reason. Not a fan of the crafting element, IME it seems like anything you find can make something or other. Makes the game slightly too easy.

And finally, hardcore. Fresh water seems to be everywhere despite it being a country supposedly hit by hundreds of nuclear bombs. As somebody earlier in this thread pointed out, get a house in Goodsprings and voila, fresh water supply. Food is easy to come by as well, just train up the survival skill and make stuff. Easy mode that only really adds minor inconveniences.

For improvements, I'd like a better combat system. It'd be cool to have more enemies on the screen at one time. I'd also like a fully functional trade system, so say the many abandoned houses you come across could be bought. Last, but not least, I'd like a bigger world with more locations, random encounters, quests, and an interesting story to go with it. Rather than the frankly terrible story NV offers.

-

That's my um, brief summary of this game. Probably a keeper, won't make much from it. It's not bad, but definitely not an improvement over it's simply fantastic prequel.

Not only a summary of the game, but a summary of this thread too. Whilst you haven't said a single thing that hasn't been said already on the thread, you have managed to gather it all into one place (whether knowingly or unknowingly; I suspect the latter).

laugh Summed the game up for me too, very disappointing. I'm playing LA Noire at the moment, but I think I might fire up FO3 again in the next couple of months and have another play through (for the 4th time), and try and get every achievement. If that's possible.

Trading could be massively improved. If a community paid a premium for a certain item (eg. somewhere like Megaton would need to import grain, so could pay more) and another sold that item cheap (eg. the NCR Sharecropper farm) then you could make caps by actually trading on the difference - it would become worthwhile to actually be a trader. Kind of like Elite but with less spaceships. smile

I still haven't found anything that's kept me occupied for as long as FO3 did. GTA:SA came close, but nothing has put me into the same obsession of: "What's round this corner? Who do I meet (or kill) next?"

I had a lot of fun assassinating important people on that game, NV is so vague in comparison. It's honestly not comparable.

No idea I summed up the thread though rofl

As far LA Noire, any good? I've been looking at it for a while, but according to my brother (who I should know not to trust by now) it's more of a film than a game.

That sounds ace. It would be good if you could actually be a sadistic bd and sell the water from the purifier (like you said, by it off the BoS and then sell it on to other communities).

Worth a £20 punt if you can get it 'used'. Up to now, I'm just following the plot and doing what I'm told. I'm not sure what happens if I decide to ignore that and run amok, but I'll give it a go soon!

I'm considering Deus Ex: Human Revolution as my next purchase. Looks like it has some elements of Fo3 in it (RPG levelling up / character perk type elements) and looks like it has some sandbox freedom like Fo3 does too. May be worth a punt.

Not much. Civilians jump out of the way of your car, and you'll find it difficult to shoot people.

Rage seems to be a game in a similar style but they have got rid of VATS and made it a true FPS

Intrigued about this one.

The trailer on the website looks good - I like the way the sights appear to work (reminds me of the original Deus Ex).

Intriguing, thanks for posting.

Heads-up to those on the PC platform... there's 50% off on Steam right now.

The DLCs (Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Lonesome Road and and Old World Blues) are all now £3.74 each, and the game itself is £7.49

Edit: And Gun Runners' Arsenal is £1.49

Ive loaded up FO3 again with all the DLC. Also added a bunch of player mods too. Terrain, buildings, guns, armor and sky etc all improved. Also a mod to allow it to utilize more than 2gb of ram which helps performance a little. Looks great and still so much better than NV.

Must admit I went back to Fall out 3 with that DLC. Bought one of the add ons for Vegas and was very disappointed.

STALKER is one I do return to more often than FO3 though.

Yes, I agree on the NV DLCs. I didn't bother with Dead Money as the premise didn't appeal to me. I did get Honest Hearts and it was very weak, although the sub-story of the Survivalist who started the legend of the Sorrows' "Father of the Cave" god was very moving - if you didn't piece together all the pieces then it's all here on the Wiki (spoiler, obviously)

I've bought Old World Blues and Lonesome Road mainly because I'm bored at the moment and they're not expensive. I don't have very high hopes for them; Lonesome Road has got particularly bad reviews as being very linear and boring.
