I'm really stuck as to what to do next now, I've got the Platinum Chip - that was fun trying to get that, hated by the Legion did not make it easy!
Well, I think pretty much choose one now. Then re-play the game and choose another option............ After all, it may not end the way you think regardless of what you choose...Steve- Ah, I wonder if I missed that as I was busy getting him overthrown...... Oh well, maybe this time around I'll do that first then evict him.
Matt - some of the vaults give up some pretty good stuff.
Zod - I take it you've met the fellow who is outside the main hut? He's the one who usually has weapons and ammo to trade (and the odd radiation suit too).
Buffalo - do you mean Cass? She is ok, not great though. I tend to play mainly with Rex or ED-E as my companions so that I get the kills in the main and just use them as mules....
And to survive that chamber you need pulse grenades or a Gauss Rifle - it's 2-3 shots to kill the Sentry Bots with that beastie - a combination of the two makes it over in seconds IME...

Nope, everyone at the Gun Runners is alive and well
I killed them all early in the game but they still had lots of weapons and ammo for sale (oh and I used to regularly pop in, kill the guards and sell his armour to the Robot too)... This time round though I'm not going to kill them all and see if they have more weapons etc..
Hmm, for some reason Cliff in Novac tells me about the dinosaurs etc but then I don't get the option to buy them!?!? (restarted the game now)
ETA it's because I am a muppet and I needed to get on with the "out of this world" or whatever it is quest to launch the rockets.... Now he's sold me the stuff I wanted.

right, ive just started playing this, not read much of the thread so as not to spoil it.
Basically im struggling with what to do - ive gone to Novac, and started doing the rocket place task, but there is no way i can survive in the basement with those things, even when i do the 2 tasks down there..
where can i go to level up and get better weapons with less dangerous tasks?
Kill one Nightkin, steal his Rebar Club. Then get to a doorway and just stand there swinging it at them and they can't get you but you get them in the main, and they die. Alternatively use a stealth boy and go left and down into the room with the Nightkin Leader (A guy who talks to antlers, but never mind) without kill any Nightkin as he will then set you a task and you don't get attacked by the others. It's the room before the room with the Harlston (IIRC - the Ghoul fellow who is trapped in the basement).
Uh, I ran to the right, and stuck to the ridge of the rocks all along the right. Then just followed it (and the railway line) all the way round to the fence then just strolled along the fence to the gate.
Once you've got into the boomers and become friends IIRC you can then stroll out to get to the BoS trooper out there.

They both are, aren't they? I went in there, got overloaded with the salvaged power armour (can't give it to companions as it instantly disappears) and got quite a dose of radiation crawling out of there!
I think that you companions can't carry faction armour as it thinks you want them to wear it. So they can carry around Armour, Metal Armour, Leather Armour, but if you give them BoS or Legion armour they just drop it right away.....JonRB said:

F****ng Vault 34.
That is all.
If you mean the constant whirr...CLUNK...whirr...CLUNK of the stuck doors, and the incessant crackle of the Geiger Counter then I am with you there. It's so irritating. That is all.
I really should just go with Boone and sort them out but I am trying to take it on my own...

Completed it. Sided with 'Yes Man', going to have to try the alternate endings later. The game really picks up towards the end.
IN all honesty I think the game picks up mainly in the middle, then it's time to womble about doing all the mini-quests, and there are loads. I think that each and every companion has different quests as well, so I guess a good game will involve using all the companions.... It's a game that can take hundreds of hours to do it properly IMHO. At some stage I am going to have to play it by killing NCR troops, be interesting to see how that one pans out.

I think getting the Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle early on has made things easier for me. Two headshots with that and a Deathclaw is down. And I killed Caesar and all of his guards with single headshots of Hollow Point from that rifle. It's a truely awesome weapon.
One could argue that it is a little overpowered to the point that there is seldom a point in using much else, though.

But these were features that were in F3. There LOADS of these missions in F3!
There are quite a few quests in NV as well, I think I did about 62 of them in my last play through, I;ve done 30 so far in this one, and I've not met Benny yet.... There are also a fair few unmarked quests here too, like the gun trader in the McCarren Camp, which takes a bit of time of gives a great reward in the end...
I tend to agree that the map is however far too small and I cannot abide the way you can't walk where you want, I seem to find glass walls all over the place. A lot of the buildings seem a lot smaller than F3 to me but I am still finding new places etc
You are not wrong, it could have been so much better.
As I said, my main gripe is that the building etc are so so very much smaller than most in F3. It really is quite disappointing, along with a smaller map IMHO. If the map (including buildings etc) was as large as F3 I think this would be an absolutely supreme game. I also haven't found secret things in quite the same way as F3 (but that could be me being hopeless) such as the places where the chinese spies were hidden etc.
I think a lot of the development went into the Faction side of things and how that affects you, and perhaps even running two companions (though I do like the way your companions have little quests too - ED-E completed one with me last night, I have no idea how or why it started).
But I do enjoy the weapon mods (I wish there were far more of them though, but a silencer on the sniper rifle is awesome IMHO, I love sneaking around and taking pot shots at fiends etc) and making stimpacks, and weapon repair kits, and even a timebomb..... Oh, and using Armour Piercing rounds to blast Mutant Masters and Fiends to kingdom come...
BTW, anyone know WTF the tower radio things are in Black Mountain - I turned them all to On but have no idea if anything happened...
