Awsome game. I bought my PS3 3years ago just for this game not relising i would have to wait 3 years to try it out.
Was it worth waiting 3 years for, well yes to be honest.
I have the GT force feedback wheel and that makes all the difference I cannot see how people can play these racing games with a joy pad their is no comparison.
My favorite track that I will use most is the nurbergring as it is the most challenging one.
Those that feel the graphix are poor on some of the cars will not be disapointed once you get to the more expensive cars. I would say that 800 cars would be at home in GT4 but the other 200 awsome models and soeme fantastic detail.

Bit of a newbie question here.
i have the game and like it so far,but ive only ever played with the joypad and have to live with no progressive throttle which is a bit annoying.
anyway,i was looking at the official GT steering wheel and pedals (about 80 quid).
I've never had a go on one so i was wondering how you set it up?,have it on your knees as you sit on the couch or sit at a table?,i just cant see it being comfortable sliding around on your lap.
I'd love a proper car seat set up but not got the money or room.

errrr does any one actually drive with the in car view or just have a quick look and then go back to the bumper cam?

its all about personal preference. I've grown up with GT games and I think every one is expecting too much ie ultra realistic graphics.....

think back 10 years to what games were like and take another look at gt5 and stop complaining.... some people are never impressed. you could have rented it before buying if you really weren't sure and saved some cash.

personally i think its much the same as previous GT's, not the most exciting game but if you are a 'proper' car person then its about the best thing you can get with out owning the cars......

Very dissapointed with it.
Its a good game, but it still feels unfinished, the graphics are not that great, handling isnt bad, but it could be better. Sound effects are a joke.
Interior view is only on certain cars.
IF I didnt have Forza 3, I probably would have love it, but the fact it was delays so much, I expected to at least match the feel of Forza 3, but it doesnt even come close.

If you dont have an Xbox 360, get GT5, you wont know any better an youll love it, if you have both consols like me I would wait till it goes into the platinum range, it hopefully would have had a few updates by then and at £20 it would be a good buy...

Question is, what was the delay for, cant be sounds recording, thats still aweful, cant be graphics, alot of the cars look bad, the backgrounds are 2d on some tracks and the textures are rubbish. cant be car interiors, thats only available on some of the cars (BTW Forza wasnt delayed and has interiors on all cars). So why was it delayed?!

ETA: I always used to be GT man, have all of them, loved them all. I bought a PS3 just to get GT5, ended up getting an Xbox and Forza 2 as a stop gap because GT5 kept getting delayed. How Forza 2 and 3 could have been made during the time it took to make GT5 shows just how much they have dropped the ball.

me aswell man. I got the ps2 just for gt4 and that was ok-ish ... I mean gt3 and gt4 there wasnt much difference at all 3 was with the launch of ps2 and therefore rushed then when they released gt4 hell there was no imprOvement at all........

then i got my ps3 just for this.I mean the graphics look EXACTLY like gt4.
5/6 years waiting for what ? a big let down. All that graphical power of the ps3 and it looks just like gt4.Pathetic.

And what really pisses me off is if your not going to change the graphics after making people wait for years at least INCREASE THE CARS.
Instead you get about 1000 cars. F**king pathetic. You got more on gt4. I was expecting about 5000 cars with the harddisk and the dual layer dvd bullst.

A BIG LET-DOWN.

If you remap your throttle and brake to the R2 & L2 buttons in the options you get progressive throttle and brakes with a pad. Why this isn't the default is beyond me (one of the many hangovers from previous GT games that Polyphony seem determined to not change).

Would also suggest investing in some Geotek Real Triggers if you are going to continue using the pad as they make it more comfortable and easier to control.

The Official GT Force wheel is supposed to be very good once you have configured it to your liking, just make sure you have enough space and the right setup (desk/stand) before buying though.

Hope this helps.

The PS3 pad buttons are pressure sensitive, so you can modulate the throttle with them, or you can use the right stick or re-map the throttle to the finger triggers as already stated.

I'm sure the Dualshock 2's (PS2) buttons were much more adjustable than those of the sisaxis or DS3 though...

The pad buttons dont work very well though from experience, nowhere near enough range of movement for proper throttle control. Using the right stick always felt like i was trying to pat my head and rub my stomach at the same time, never felt comfortable or well co-ordinated.
