Unfortunately I'm having to wait until Christmas. My wife always bemoans me buying things like this so close to Christmas as "I'm so difficult to buy for" rolleyes

For those that have had GT1,2,3,4 and Prologue what are your thoughts?

I utterly loved GT but wasn't that impressed by Prologue. It looked beautiful, but so did the others at the time, but it felt to sterile. I wasn't that taken by the car list for GT5 either - not a huge leap forward in variety from the previous versions.

But what does it play like?

Is it just Prologue with more tracks and cars plus the Gran Turismo mode? If so I've a horrible feeling I'm going to be some what deflated.
Let me give you an example: One of the A licence tests- focus rally car, gravel track.

Uphill start, gentle right, onto a flatter straight, and into a tight right hander.

Buzzer beeps, so foot hits the floor. Cue massive wheel spin and bouncing off the limiter. Acceleration seems sluggishly slow.

Crest the rise, car shifts to third, and the speed builds. I realise I'm a bit too far right for the upcoming bend, so lightly roll the wheel- which doesn't move...

Apply a bit more pressure, and the feedback clearly indicates the car climbing out of a rut, and the steering lightens slightly.

Hit the brake pedal, force the wheel one way then the other to get the back end sliding - feel the steering go light, roll past the centre point, and progressively add some lock.

see the exit, pound the accelerator, and wind off the lock as I hit the finish line.

Take a breath, see that I've hit gold. Swear, a mix of tension release and disbelief.

Hit start to have another go...
very well summed up smile

Very dissapointed with it.
Its a good game, but it still feels unfinished, the graphics are not that great, handling isnt bad, but it could be better. Sound effects are a joke.
Interior view is only on certain cars.
IF I didnt have Forza 3, I probably would have love it, but the fact it was delays so much, I expected to at least match the feel of Forza 3, but it doesnt even come close.

If you dont have an Xbox 360, get GT5, you wont know any better an youll love it, if you have both consols like me I would wait till it goes into the platinum range, it hopefully would have had a few updates by then and at £20 it would be a good buy...

Question is, what was the delay for, cant be sounds recording, thats still aweful, cant be graphics, alot of the cars look bad, the backgrounds are 2d on some tracks and the textures are rubbish. cant be car interiors, thats only available on some of the cars (BTW Forza wasnt delayed and has interiors on all cars). So why was it delayed?!

ETA: I always used to be GT man, have all of them, loved them all. I bought a PS3 just to get GT5, ended up getting an Xbox and Forza 2 as a stop gap because GT5 kept getting delayed. How Forza 2 and 3 could have been made during the time it took to make GT5 shows just how much they have dropped the ball.

Cars bought from dealerships are classed as "Premium", look superb and have perfectly detailed interiors also.
Has anyone noticed that (or at least in the case of my Honda Civic) the dashboard clocks seem to be blurred? The rpm and speed needles move, but the text and detailing is not crystal clear, unlike Forza 3. Not important as such, but with the introduction of in-car views, you would've thought the developers would have chosen detailed dials!

As a FM3 player, and hence 360 owner, this is the one game that makes me regret my console choice.

Out of interest how is the Rally bit, in my opinion that is what FM3 is really lacking. (But does it also still have an obsession with the Nissan Skyline, and insist on putting in 150 slightly different types?)

As for the delays, has a anyone hit any errors or crashes yet? If not they were worth it. Been playing Black Opps, not overly impressed, and hit a game crashing error on one mission! I thought we were beyond this people, after all we do live in the future...

Anyway, back to the point, hope you PS3 bods are enjoying it and as soon as I can persuade someone to lend me one i'm really looking forward to getting back to GT.

As a 360 owner I'm quite happy with the reviews so far.... Means that I don't have to splash out on a PS3, GT5 and wheel setup.
I can't believe that with the time it's taken for this to be released, that it's quality doesn't blow other Sim-racers out the water. It all sounds a little bit below par to me.

Just got a 360 for christmas and was feeling disappointed I couldn't try GT5. Having tried earlier Forza and GTs on the old PlayStations and Xboxes I was looking forward to this, but having read the comments it doesn't seem to have blown FM3 out of the water, so I reckon I'll be happy enough biding my time for a while.

I see from the list of cars on their website the Ferrari F355 isn't it the game :-( - It's always rated as one of the best supercars of all time so it's a shame they've missed it out and put multiple versions of other cars in instead.

Anyone aware of other recent games with the F355 in? PC or PS3 please

I posted about the crimminal absence of the 355 yesterday, my favourite car ever frown The other legendary Japanese games creator Yu Suzuki dedicated an entire simulation racer to the F355 10 years ago . . how could PD overlook this great car is beyond me. I was also hoping to see the 360 CS, ot the Modena at the very least.

Neither GT5 or Forza 3 are sims, try the PC for that. I would say Forza 3 carries is off better though.

General concensus from reviewers and people who have played it (inc myself) is that it isn't that great.

What a load of twoddle. You've stated YOUR opinion. Type in 'GT5 Review' into Google. The general concensus is that it's an excellent game, with a few minor flaws. Most of the reviews are above 8/10, which is excellent. Many of them are 9.5/10.

I never used to, until I started playing GT5 Prologue. It didn't feel natural driving from the outside, but once in the cockpit view it felt second nature.

I can't wait to get my copy smile

the most boring game in the world! and as for the cars, great selection a million skylines/GTR's etc that are all the bloody same just different paint jobs and spoilers.... they all drive the same as well, as for the tracks, not much range and so many reverse tracks and long and short versions of the same track....

This franchise reached its peak with GT3, since then its all been downhill i'm afraid its crap, dont waste your money like i did. Actually does anyone wanna buy a copy? LOL sleepsleep
