RE: Gran Turismo 5: The Launch
Discussion
I'm loving the game. 31% completed so far, with gold in all beginner and amateur series.
There are definitely things I'd like to see improved on, and I thought they would have done more in the time they had to work on it. But it's already had more play time than the last two Simbin games I purchased.

Anyone got one of those steering wheels that looks like one from a GT3 RS?
They look well cool!
Wondered if they are any good.
I'm assuming you mean this. Fanatec GT3 RS WheelThey look well cool!

looks to be about the best "reasonably" priced wheel on the market. Have a look at the Clubsport pedals, a true work of art and they support ABS feedback where available.

Obvious answer to the poor graphics which I'm sure someone else has already answered is that the PS3 is a bit old now. Technology goes so fast that a full on racing sim is likely to run far better on the PC. Not full checked but there doesn't seem to be a PC version and of course if it has been truncated to run with the limitations of the PS3 then it may not be any better even if they do a PC version.
With premium cars and the right tracks (city) the graphics are amazing, especially in full 1080P on a 40" tv. No issues with the hardware from my viewpoint. The problem with most PC developers is that they become lazy as they can just knock out graphics that need you to pay for a new £200 video card every 6-12 months to run at a decent res. Been there, done that, got fed-up.

What are people using to fix their steering wheel to? A table or something? Or a full seat/wheel/pedal setup? I just can't use anything in the house, i.e. coffee table too low.
I tried using the steering wheel sat on my lap while on the sofa - Fail!
Wheel Stand Pro seems to be the top pick.I tried using the steering wheel sat on my lap while on the sofa - Fail!

There are a few stands around such as this one that dont need you to invest in a race seat etc. Supposed to be pretty good.I tried using the steering wheel sat on my lap while on the sofa - Fail!
Speedblack EVO Universal Steering Wheel Stand
Have a look on Amazon as well.

Is it worth buying a PS3 for.. apart from the fact i'd get a blu ray player too ?
No, but Uncharted 1 & 2 really do, they are epic games, those along with MGS 4 and GT5 make it worth it.To the person asking if anyone had any bugs? mine crashed the first time I tried to play online...

I had gt, gt2, gt3 and gt4 as soon as released, I think each were a step forward, also had prologue which I thought was ok. Got GT5 a day early from Amazon, played it for three nights now to give it a chance, done the first three licences and a few of the beginner and amateur races. So far im not impressed. The damage isn’t there either, haven’t found an option toggle for it. Graphics seem flat and relatively blocky. Ill give it a load more hours, perhaps my screen settings aren’t good? Driving with manual and as unassisted as possible, no traction etc. Currently im thinking where did the 5 years of development go… sound isn’t great either. As I say, will give it a big chance over the coming weeks instead of black ops which im also not impressed with, too glassy, mw2 better imo, bad company battlefield 2 is much better than both.
Well here’s to some gt’ing next few weeks on/ off, lets see…?!?!?!?!

Where are the RUFs?? I've only just started but can't see them anywhere!! I was promised RUF.
They're in there somewhere. I've raced against them, but not had a chance to buy one yet.Edited by broker1 on Friday 26th November 11:45

As an seasoned GT player I cannot wait to try GT5 but if they haven't brought back race car conversions or you cannot upgrade cars visually as well as mechanically like NFS:Shift or GRID I'm going to be severely disappointed.
If its just like the previous GT series with those options I am going to be in heaven.

After lots of research, I bought this: GameRace Elite. With the Driving Force GT wheel, it's fantastic. You need quite a bit of room for it tho'!I tried using the steering wheel sat on my lap while on the sofa - Fail!

Damage is coming in an update, although Sony haven't said when.Regarding graphics, assuming you are using a Full HD TV with HDMI cable, you must have some settings wrong somewhere! Std cars are not as pretty as Premium ones, however, the landscapes etc shouldn't change and should all be very smooth.
