I used the shortcut for the engineer pack only, being a newcomer I was getting a bit bored of being raped by the people who've done nothing but play this, drink Mountain Dew and masturbate since it came out, it unlocks the weapons and gadgets but not the attachments, spent ages just trying to get an ACOG sight for the G36C I thought of buying a bundle as well... But I refrained. I May do it for the recon kit, I do like to play with sniper rifles in games but in BF3 i just dont have the dexterity on the dual shock to play recon properly, so after a 3 minute go as recon I haven't been back. I'll never be good enough on the pad to get the unlocks. I wouldnt mind having the option of unlocking the best rifles, but I guess it would be curiosity only as I like playing Engineer or Support far too much. Thankfully I have started unlock gadgets and guns for the Engineer now... but I do agree, if you just play occaisionally its going to take you a long time to get the unlocks and thats a lot of time spent with the base guns getting royally served by people who play 24/7. One game I was in I think my mean alive time was about 10 seconds. Would of had a bit more chance if I'd had a better weapon maybe. Having said that, on the US team I really like the base assualt rifle (M4A1? or something) I think its quite good, better than the SCAR-H and the PP2000. But I am so awful at aiming I rarely kill anyone anyway. Better to get in a heli or tank with a good pilot and repair for your life!!!... was on a good game with someone in the little bird, fixing them up while people were trying to shoot them out the sky.

I undertook a slightly unorthodox but unquestionably effective method of dealing with a fantastic heli/gunner combo just now. He was devastatingly good, and I knew I couldn't out fly him so I opted for the Jihad way. After a third successful kamikazee he inboxed me and called me a noob. Yes you could argue it was a waste of a plane, but they weren't being used. I did the team more of a favor that way, plus its funny.

Just got PS3 and i bought BF3 and the Karkland maps, currently spent 2.25hrs and seriously suffering due to lack of weapons and the PS controller. I have no intention of buying any of the packs as it won't make much difference to my gaming. I'm s t with a s t gun and s t with a good gun. But it's still fun and enjoy every bit. Not found graphic, gameplay or anything else different from the XBOX it just allows me to play upstairs or downstairs whenever i want. Tag for Xbox - cal216610 PS3 - cal216610

That's one of my pet peeves and not exactly unorthodox, for every 20 minutes I spend in a heli, I would expect to be "jet Kamikazee killed" at least once and I'm a distinctly average pilot. The problem is that the more people you kill in the heli, the more people will try to take you out by crashing a jet into you. It's not just against helis either - check out the Javelin Squad's Caspian Borders video on youtube. People try to take out infantry by crashing jets into them! By the end of the round they're running around with bits of undercarriage and airplane surrounding them! It's totally unrealistic. but I can see why people do it. It is annoying when you're happily racking up a streak and someone does it to you though.

Yeah admittedly I felt a bit nooby. But nobody else was making an effort to take him out, so I thought f k it.

Yep, definitely a noob tactic. There are many other ways to dispose of a chopper, especially now an unguided RPG/tank shell is now an instant kill.

If they are a decent pilot then hitting them with unguided stuff is good going. I still go for the 6 c4 strapped onto the jihad jet approach, noobish it may be but a sure fire way of getting rid of them instead of firing and hoping for the best. Anyway, RPK with bipod and ext mags is my favourite gun yet. So good to deploy and hose bullets at people. Went 23-0 on rush on bazaar with it.

Even equipping a stinger as an engineer, staying in cover away from an objective and continually locking on and firing missiles at them is enough to severely curtail most chopper pilot's dominance. Even if they keep breaking/dodging the lock, they'll soon get fed up of spending their time dodging missiles rather than killing stuff and go and bother someone else on the other side of the map instead. I find a lot of the time people (including me) are so set on playing a particular set up, whether to unlock kit, ribbons or medals, or purely through preference, that they aren't prepared to change a set up to counter an enemy's dominant play. One of the aspects of BF3 that I really like is how balanced it is - there's a natural counter to pretty much any style of play (except perhaps high level teamwork), but I'm constantly surprised at how few people, including very experienced players, have mastered the different classes and kits. I like to think that I'm proficient, if not exactly great, in pretty much any role from counter-sniper to meat grinding assault to anti-tank heli pilot. I haven't got the hang of jets yet, but it's rare that they pose much of a threat to winning a game and I can deal with them effectively enough in an attack heli. Nonetheless, after I've got a bit more time in helis I'll be donning the aviators and trying to work out how to kill infantry at 300mph+!

Can someone tell me how to use that third gun (if that's what it is) on a tank? Every now and then I jump in a tank that already has 2 people in it and I get different crosshairs to normal and all I can do is switch infrared on/off. I don't seem to be able to shoot with it.
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick here and it's not actually a gun?

YOu have hammer choppers with it, and make other tanks day a misery too: Lock at distance and score the fisrt guided hit, close them down, Driver switches to "normal" shells for a quick seocnd hit, 3rd man hops out and looses off an RPG/SMAW and that's the job jobeed even in a full frontal tank battle. You can take out an enemy tank in 2-3 seconds if you get the timing right.

I only run guided shells, and it frustrates me how many tank drivers don't use it, which is why I have to rely on scaring the fly boys away more often than not.

Canister for closed maps, Guided shells for open maps with helis. You can still do good work with the CITV spotting and using thermals to hunt out camping snipers, SOFLAMS, etc etc, on maps even when the driver isn't using guided shells (rightly or wrongly). Plus I love hopping out and getting the tank kill with an RPG after the driver and gunner have done all the hard work!

So for the tank... what are the unlocks? I do like playing tank driver but just as with any assualt rifle for me its very much a case of, banjo, barn door, couldn't, hit, a.
At the moment I think when you first start you have the IR smoke and thats it. I think now I can press triangle to switch to the coax LMG and I think the HMG is the next upgrade. But where does IR vision come in and guided/canister shells and how do you equip them? There isnt a load out screen like there is for the 4 player classes.

There is a load out screen - you can do it in the menus before joining a game or mid-game before you spawn. If you join Battlelog you can keep track of the unlocks and see how many points you need to unlock new kit (as well as see all your other stats).
