How did the donut in the blue clio almost end up in a canal? Someone putting too much trust into a satnav?
I am the donut i was on my way to my boat and its a country road so was having a bit of a hoon but had to brake hard coming up to the boat yard pulled up handbrake on cross bridge to boat, hear someone shout looks across the canal to my dad running out the boatyard from his boat with his mate and managed to grab the back bumper at about stomach height as his mate threw his foot under the front wheel!!! very very close call discs had cooled down and made the handbrake loose lesson learned i leave my car in gear now. 2 cars pull it back on land is it was sliding up the quay with just one!Edited by D15CO D4VE on Thursday 26th April 06:57

I'm late to the party, but that's utterly ridiculous Mr.Dickinson. In other news, Flickr's 'Explore' is so random. I went from #31 to #7 down to #8 and then I dropped off of Explore all together. No problem. Then yesterday I re-entered Explore with the same picture at #6.

I had similar weirdness with mine - both got explored (neither were *that* special in the first place) - started in the 400s, one went up to 60-odd the other got 'dropped'. What does it mean to be dropped ? Do they replace it with another ? In other news, Flickr's 'Explore' is so random. I went from #31 to #7 down to #8 and then I dropped off of Explore all together. I feel like I should add a picture as to not derail the thread too much, so here, have a diptych.

As far as my reading of the very little info I have found about Flickr explore - the default random 'last 7 days' version not the other selection options, it's simply a matter of someone (flickr staff presumably) or something setting an 'Explore' flag that, presumably, lasts for 7 days.
The flagged pics are then displayed randomly - no selection order implied and the viewing figures don't seem to related to order either though I have not spent a lot of time checking that - until the 7 days are up (or something).
If you hit 'Next Page' often enough you will, from time to time, see an image or two you have previously viewed in the same session.
Now there may well be some greater structure to this than at first seems likely but I'm darned if I have been able to work out what it is or find any info on Flickr that suggests there is rhyme and reason to how it works.
Assuming I am wrong I look forward to a tutorial (Flickr Explore for Dummies?) from someone more knowledgable.

I know techniques of how to get Explored. I had never been Explored before, then I did some research and narrowed down the best course of action and had 5 shots Explored in a year or so. Having said that, you still need a good shot. AFAIK there isn't a human element to the selection process; it's done on formulas that work out 'interestingness'. If I have a good shot that I think could make it in to Explore, I follow my little routine and it has worked maybe, 60% of the time. It's a little time consuming though.
Flickr certainly is an odd one, but it keeps it interesting I guess!

Interesting. It's a nice ego boost to get lots of interest on Flickr but let's be honest it's what PH thinks that counts - getting a 'well done' on here can be tough at times, not surprising as the quality has been ridiculous lately!
Indeed. When you get positive comments on your landscape from Rob and Steve you know you're on to a winner Robbie B said:

Indeed. When you get positive comments on your landscape from Rob and Steve you know you're on to a winner My point; you can only work with the light and material you are presented with, and those that put the hours in to get out there early on dark mornings get the results.
Which is why so many here produce such great work... You know who you are!
