I see there have been a few previous threads about this which haven't been particularly conclusive. I've always just used Windows Movie Maker to trim, sequence and caption, but I've now got a GoPro HD Hero camera and was thinking of trying to do things a bit more creatively (by which I don't mean that I want lots of warping and rotating transitions). Also, the machine with WMM on it is steam driven. I installed Windows Live Movie Maker on my newer machine and lasted about ten minutes before I wanted to kill it. Horrible inflexible piece of crap.

I've installed Premiere Elements 10 to evaluate, but haven't paid for a licence yet. I find the UI a bit irritating, in a bd offspring of iTunes and Facebook kind of way, but it seems powerful and flexible. I had to screw around modifying a preset file to import the 1280x960 footage I had, and I haven't seen how it renders yet, but I'm thinking of buying it. Is there anything better for sensible money? I have access to a Macbook Pro, but windows software would probably be more convenient.

What's everyone else using?

I was considering Vegas, it's an awful lot cheaper than Premiere. Does it import GoPro videos without any fuss?

Hmm. And I could buy it online for 25 quid and pick it up from my local PC World, thus having it in my hot little hands in a little over an hour...

Hmm.

25 quid isn't a lot to gamble on a bit of software, especially when the alternative is more than three times that.
