Not put any photos on here or even Flickr for ages. In fact I've barely taken any photos recently but this was experimenting with a new lens and some nice flowers:

50mm canon macro f2.5 and using it with my 400D.

Really not all that happy with the 400D anymore but my photography skills aren't great and I can't really justify anything better. The new lens helps though, nice to have something new to play with, and I'm getting used to it (slowly).

Used my girlfriend's Sony Alpha 57 at the same time and it was just so much easier all round. Lovely screen, much easier to manual focus accurately, colours in general seemed brighter, less blown out areas, closer focusing (better macro lens on it) and so on. I imagine her pics will be much better than mine frown

Interesting - didn't even know there was such a thing. If you want to get closer how about some extension tubes ? I've some Kenko tubes I don't use anymore - would take a sensible offer smile

Random one, first time I've seen a newt and it was just about to wander under my car and get squashed.

A lovely spring day yesterday and I wake up to 3" of snow this morning.

And this little fella greets me as I get to the office.

Crap picture I know.
No.

I love the look of wildlife as it 'observes' you, takes you in. Are you food, or foe?

I think you've captured that perfectly.

Times are hard up here for them with the huge forest fires we had last year - he was definitely thinking - 'have you got any food'.

I spotted (get it?) this today. First time I've ever found an active woodpecker nest. Sadly it's about 60ft up a tree and my gear isn't up to it.

This was on a borrowed P510 at full zoom (42x) in iffy light:

Nice woodpecker shot especially considering the challenge. Content trumps technical perfection.

Meanwhile, urban living - and death.

Thanks. Also your fox is clearly sleeping, how you didn't wake it up!

I thought I'd re-post this here as I haven't been on this thread before. My good lady took the photo whilst I braved this monster.biggrin

Indeed. It had been sleeping for about 30 hours by that point. Very tired it seems.

Overnight trip to the Forest of Dean with my girlfriend was fairly successful in terms of wildlife though the photo quality was merely average.

This chap was a slightly unexpected find but pretty happy to pose:

And this family were a very lucky spot but the dreadful light and annoying vegetation (who put it there anyway?) made them practically impossible to get any decent pics of.

Two of the four youngsters:

Humbugs - Forest of Dean by South West Wildlife, on Flickr

Mum a minute or two before she mock charged us (made the heart race a bit!). We'd stayed in one place but she kept moving towards us, and foolishly I choose completely the wrong time to move position and it spooked her smile (scared the living daylights out of my girlfriend hehe)

The only view we were really got of her:

Wild boar (Sus scrofa) female foraging by South West Wildlife, on Flickr

Great set, particularly well done in getting so close to the lizard, damn things never stay still when I see them. Looks like you got a good encounter with the boar too. thumbup
