Three years regularly walking around a small inconsequential lake in Derby and yesterday a pair of Mandarin's turned up! I just wish the light had been better.

Some fantastic pictures in this thread, I've really enjoyed looking through it.

My first contribution. Took these on holiday last year.

Cheers, the dragonfly was more luck than judgement. If I was using 35mm I'd have gotten through a lot of film!

Here's a few more random ones from the last few years.

I set up some feeders recently where I work and have had quite a few things visiting already but by far my best sighting so far for rarity etc was this little chap!

Weasel by South West Wildlife, on Flickr

Having worked for years outdoors and been to all sorts of lovely areas, nice hides and wild places this is the first weasel I've ever actually watched anywhere. I've seen the odd flash across roads before but never been able to watch one zipping about hunting the voles that feed around the feeders. Was very very pleased with this even if the photo is entirely average smile

Excellent weasel spot. I think they are superb creatures and don't often see them in the wild.

I was on patrol one night and stopped in a service road to an industrial estate near Gatwick in the wee smalls to eat my sarnies. I switched on my headlights before starting the engine and I saw a stoat/weasel running across the little road. I'd never seen one before and its gait looked rather odd. I was staring at it when a barn owl, a bloody great big one, glided over the top of my car and almost clipped the bonnet. Its wingspan seemed to be almost the width of the car. I lost sight of the weasel as the owl was in the way but then it dipped and struggled to gain height, the weasel in its claws. It then went too high for me to see.

All over in a few seconds. Absolutely stunning.

The owl seemed almost brilliant white and the reflection from the headlights made me screw up my eyes.

I've been lurking on the random photos thread for a while but didn't realise there was a nature random thread. I'm just getting into photography, got myself a new camera which I'm still learning and joined flickr last month (I'm already stalking following a few of you). Here's some of my nature snaps so far:
