RobbieKB said: Yeah, I er, knew that. I was just saying I need to go to the Mach Loop I can't believe they are only at 300mm! I presume you're using a crop body? Yep, using a D300s. Some are cropped in though, for example the Typhoon shot is probably a 50% crop.

Quick thread hijack, but how do you "crop in"?

lloyd h said: Using the crop tool in Photoshop Thought as much! Getting really thick now, but when I use the crop tool (in GIMP, not bought anything better yet) it just cuts areas out of the image I don't want but leaves me with a smaller image....do you then increase the scale of what remains once you have cropped? Sorry for the first grade questions!

Sorry for the first grade questions! Yeah cropping will do that! It depends what I'm using the image for as to whether I then upscale the image really, if its for print then yes if its just for the web then no!

john185k said: Cracking shots Lloyd (i want to go to the mach loop too Robbie ) Nice shot! Another noob question - how do you get the depth in shots like that? Is it the type of lens used? What I mean is, how is that you get such distance in the picture but also get the foreground to look like you are literally looking down at your feet with the camera?

Hi there, that is quite a wide lens used (very wide actually.) Its a canon 17-40mm L lens on a 5dmk2 body (full frame.) Nearly all my shots try and connect the immediate land to what I see in the distance. A few other examples

Fantastic shots John, Binliner (I see yours on 500px before PH now ) and Lloyd. Lloyd you're an aviation photographer, you're not allowed to be good at landscapes too - stop it.

Is that a real shadow, or enhanced? It looks a little overdone if you don't mind me saying.
