Lake district tips

Steve is right... The roads in the Lake District can be full of you BLOODY TOURISTS!

But to be honest, unless its s bank holiday weekend in the summer, it's usually pretty quiet.

Although technically not quite in the Lake District, but in Cumbria, Hartside is one fantastic road. Head out on the A686 from Penrith signposted Alston.... The thrash it all the way all the way to the top of the mountain till you reach the Hartside Cafe





Just don't go in the winter!



Let me rephrase that, don't go in the winter unless you follow a Snowblower and are you are on your way to the ski area at the very top called Yad Moss, which features a 700 metre Poma tow, Piste Groomers and snow mobiles...

Could anyone suggest any good driving roads or routes in the Lake District? My old company gave me a Caterham hire voucher as a leaving gift and I am heading up to the lakes next Friday to enjoy it. I will be taking my SLR and also plan to buy a go pro to capture some of the action... Any tips would be gratefully received.

Stringing together the Hardknott and Wrynose passes makes a cracking drive at any speed.
And I don't know the road name but there's a stretch between Buttermere and Keswick that was like a smaller version without any other traffic when I was there:

Just been to the lakes, a stunning place of natural beauty, even better when the sun shines. All we had last week was rain rain and more rain.
