How do you tell private from public land?

I'm actually now wondering why we are debating it.
As you've had the benefit to go online and read the terms, it's not in dispute. But what actually happened was:Jetl3on said:
security appeared and told me it was private, I was being monitored and did I have a permit, I cannot use a tripod. When i asked what is private, he said everything, and flung his arms about.
What the security man should have said was what the small print says, or better still shown him a copy, not tell him he was being 'monitored' and waved his arms about. Then there's no doubt and everybody parts friends. But he didn't do that, so the OP went away doubtful and perhaps resentful. All that's needed is a bit of interpersonal 'dealing with the public' training But, come on, it's St Katherine's Dock! You're right, I had the luxury of looking it up whilst checking my emails but it's St Katherine's Dock! No excuses about the security guard but that's life. I know where the sentiment in this thread is aimed at but sometimes there are better fruit to pick. Apologies for the diversion, please carry on.

Whilst searching for a new angle on Tower Bridge the other night, came across this lovely setting by a bridge around St. Katherine's docks, very picturesque, barely got the pod out, cam mounted and started snapping before security appeared and told me it was private, I was being monitored and did I have a permit, I cannot use a tripod.
Had something similar in London a couple of years ago. Got moved on by security at the London Eye, and then again on the other bank later that evening by more security.Coincidently, we ended up at Downing St that evening, and my little sister got permission to go into Downing St and got her picture taken with the policemen on duty. So there she is, arm in arm with an armed policeman (with his machine gun (or whatever it was) of course), wearing the other policeman's hat whilst he took a picture of them!
The difference between real security people who are able to have some discretion and the private no brain security guards could not be more stark.

Was he a pleb? Amongst the howls of class warfare, nobody asked why the minister was stopped from cycling through a perfectly good exit...
Reason was because a pleb had a position of power and a hat with shiny bits on it.My theory.
Pleb vs Toff. Pleb is given a position of authority and a hat and decides to use these to demonstrate that Pleb > Toff.
Toff being somewhat inbred and therefore in reality as bereft of brain cells as the Pleb tried to prove using words that Toff > Pleb
Reality Toff = Pleb = news
What a waste of time
