I too was sceptical of the remote when buying my gopro, but now I use it every time I use my gopro.
I have it mounted on the steering wheel or door handle in the car when on the track or a cool road and on the handlebars of my bike. That way I only record the bits I want and not waste battery life and memory recording stuff I don't.
Plus it saves me having to stop and change settings etc.
The best use for it I found was recording in situations where you want the camera to be close to the action or outside in a very cold or hot environment that is too dangerous for you to be in. As an example, I put my gopro on a tripod on the apex of the corner, and stood well back. Or had the gopro outside in -38C capturing some awesome views while controlling it from a nicely heated car.
Each to their own, but this is one accessory that is not a gimmick, unlike the LCD screen or some other bits.

Boro,
I've the go pro version of this mount:

Bloody thing snapped clean off over the weekend, leaving my go pro skipping down the road. Luckily someone on another bike noticed so I didn't lose the camera.
Ever heard of this before? I presume the linked mount is less likely to snap, being alu

I've heard of a fair few of these Go Pro mounts break. The K-Edge, being aluminium is much more secure.
I realise Go Pro is a marketing company that happens to sell cameras, but £30 for a bit of stty plastic that can't even hold the go pro 3's weight (it was designed for the heavier 2) just takes the biscuit.I've heard of a fair few of these Go Pro mounts break. Most track drivers we deal with buy Panavise roll bar mounts.jon- said:

Hey Jon, I have heard of the plastic GoPro Mounts snapping buy usually only when used in extreme circumstances. CNC Aluminium is much stronger but a little more expensive, especially the K-Edge stuff.I've the go pro version of this mount:

Did you have a tether attached?

I'm not sure of the make of the micro sd card.
It's been charged by USB through a laptop and a wall socket.
That could be the problem. GoPro recommend a list of memory cards which have been tested, I'll drop you an email with the list. It's been charged by USB through a laptop and a wall socket.
Also, charging via a computer USB port could cause a problem in that some ports don't output the required ampage needed to charge the camera properly. You need a steady 5v/1a power supply. The wall socket USB charger should be good enough for this though as most are usually 1a minimum.
Are you also using the original GoPro charging cable? Some aftermarket cables don't work.
Hope this helps.

Cheers for the info. Paul
Yeah using the oem GoPro cable. I've only used the the camera a couple of times as it's brand new. I've charged it via my laptop with no issues prior to this.
As instructed by the GoPro support team I've formatted te SD card and updated the software but I'm still in the same predicament.
I'd imagine I'll just have to send it back now. The plot thickens.
I've been getting abuse from my mates as I'm the only one with a gopro and they all bought cheapo amazon special helmet cams, which all performed perfectly for the whole ski trip.
It sounds like a typical freeze when not using a memory card of high enough quality.
Here's the list of memory cards recommended by GoPro.

If you're using anything other than one of those cards, I would start by changing it. If you get a replacement camera and use the same card you might be back at square one.
GoPro records in such high quality that the memory card be the weakest link.
Hope this helps :-)

Interesting. I've got another card in my DSLR so I'll stick that in and see if it makes any difference. Cheers. Here's the list of memory cards recommended by GoPro.

I just bought 64gb micro sd for £25.99 for my phone. It's crazy how cheap memory is these days!

If you haven't already.
They have some motorcycle specific mounts that may be of use,
Had a go with one of Gopro's templates using some footage taken today of a friends British bulldog puppy.
quality isn't quite up to scratch which is my own fault when finalizing it
