Aye, had a chat with a guy at work and it comes down to my confidence that it will hold up out on the road (and track at times) so I made my mind up to go with the official ones. Like GetCarter says, it's confidence that it will work that is most important. I'd be kicking myself seeing my GoPro bounding down the road just for the sake of a tenner. The official ones held up perfectly at 150ish on track so that's good enough for me.

Thanks for your help Boro, I've sent a reply. smile

As a related topic, the suction cup is superb. I was very wary of it to begin with, but it's rock solid and seems to damp some of the vibrations out - more so than the adhesive mounts I reckon - even when it's just stuck on the side of the bike's fairing.

I have a suction mount on loan but need to return it next week, so am looking for a replacement. As above, best to stick with GoPro or shall I look elsewhere?
With suction mounts, I wouldn't screw about. If one is travelling at x mph, one needs to feel secure about the camera being... secure.

I've been to serious mph with the GoPro and it's not flown off yet.
After my "official" go pro bar clamp failed at all of 20mph I wouldn't waste my money on gopro mounts, they're comically over priced for the quality.

Can't comment on the clamp, but my GoPro suction mount managed 191 mph (GPS) without complaining.

Perhaps a mini group test would be quite interesting, go pro suction vs normal suction, weighted camera houses and then try and make them fall off smile

There are a few options with Suction Mounts. Anything from a single suction cup, to double or even triple suction cups. It depends how safe you want to be really. As with any suction cup though, the most important bit is the surface, the prep of the surface and suction cup.

If anyone needs any suggestions, drop me an email.

Agreed. Was just thinking of a Dogcam one as an alternative.
If you are thinking of this one

http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/window-camera-suction...

It is made my the same people as the GoPro mount so the suction part is exactly the same, but it has a much better joint and is easer to get the angles you what without having to take it off and move it.

It's also a bit more stable as it doesn't use the bar system GoPro use smile

Got mine back now everything working perfectly first time. Preview wifi etc. guess the first one was a lemon.
I have been in touch with customer support and tried everything suggested to no avail. Pretty good communication from them just a bit of a delay with replies but mine has now been sent to Holland for a replacement.
I queried the refund of the postage and I am getting a gratis battery in lieu.
Just waiting for it to arrive
So all in all a pretty good outcome but nothing more than you should expect on a 4 month old bit of kit

Good that it's being replacement. Did you buy direct from the GoPro website or via a UK dealer?

My wife bought it from John Lewis as a Chrissy present. I was tempted to just take it back there as I am sure they would have sorted it but once I got into comms with Gopro they just took over and I let it run it's course

Any hints as to what is going to be new about it?

One would assume at least real time 4K

Rather off topic, but CENTR Camera looks cool.

Could be pretty cool suction mounted to the middle of the roof for a track day. biggrin

I see - I've never heard it called real time before.

You should already be able to conform footage shot at 12 FPS to a project in any other frame rate, or run the project at 12 FPS to play back at record speed though, to get around this.

I'd want 4K at higher frame rates as I think it comes into it's own when cropping slo-mo footage and still playing back at 1080p and as it stands, is a bit irrelevant.

There is no such thing in FPS. USA and UK use different FPS. Real time is analogue, which cameras can't do. The only thing that can see in real time is the Mk 1 eyeball.

I'd disagree that the term is only reserved for analogue use. In CGI rendering terms there is such a concept; it means that the footage doesn't have to be speeded up like an animation does but can be generated fast enough to be played out without delay - ie. in real time. In fact, any task that does not need to be prepared at length beforehand but can instead be done on the fly can be said to be able to be done in real time.

I think that what James was trying to get at is that the camera should be able to capture and encode 4K video at its native frame rate (whatever that is - I think it is 60fps) but I agree that the term wasn't the correct one to use in this context.
