pity the basic one doesn't allow 'app' connectivity as it would be good for a 2nd camera/POV...say on back of car whilst main GoPro is covering front or inside viewpoint...
My experience is that after a while you don't really need the app to orient a camera - you can do it by sight & experience. The lens is so wide angle that you don't need to be overly accurate anyway. I think that the new basic Hero is going to sell like hot cakes.
Edit: Unless, of course, everyone else thinks the same as you.

Any information on wifi capability? It looks like the 4 black doesn't come with a wifi remote - will the remote from my 3+ be able to control both the 3+ and 4 at the same time?
Would also like clarification on this. I would have thought the 4 black would come with the remote like before with the 3+. Seems very poor value for money if it doesn't.
Found why, they're selling a load of their shares to their own charity or something.

I'm giving the basic one serious thought. I think it's worth the £100 just to have an understandable interface compared to the original HD Hero that I've got now.
BUT quote'it is integrated into a rugged housing'
that means no external microphone connecting or ability to externally power...
becomes a little less viable now me thinks

I'd have to see the full specs, but from the photo it looks like there is a USB connector on the back, and the back door looks changeable. So you might still be able to. 'it is integrated into a rugged housing'

That is great news if you can use external mic on the USB port. With the combo cable I assume you would be able to charge and use external mic. Apart from the fact the cable would cost almost half of what the GoPro costs
I use USB battery pack with my GoPro when recording in the car as it tends to run out of power quite quickly otherwise.

I've retested the housing (without the camera inside) 3 times now and each time I get water ingress.
It sounds like a rather shonky design if I have to minutely inspect the seal each time I close it? I would have thought that I should just be able to put the GoPro in, close the door and not really have to worry too much about it.
Definitely sounds like a faulty housing if it's still leaking and doesn't have an obstruction on the seal. Can you see any part of the seal or housing that would allow water in?It sounds like a rather shonky design if I have to minutely inspect the seal each time I close it? Can't say fairer than that really!
Just hope they accept the fact that I can't find the receipt, as I bought it in NYC at Easter - have sent a screenshot of my bank statement with the Best Buy debit of $460-odd, so hopefully, that will suffice.
Will update when I get the new one through
It took a while but they (GoPro) were very good overall - I guess that they get a lot of people chancing their arm with regards to broken cameras, so just need to evaluate every claim thoroughly before issuing replacements.
I've still got the old battery as they didn't want that - am wondering whether to try charging it in the new camera?!? Knowing my luck, it will fry it
Has anyone seen one of these poles which have a a camera mount or some other type of fitting on the end? I'd like to use one as an extension when mounted to either the gopro roll-bar mount or another camera style screw-on mount, but all the examples like above are designed to be hand-held.

I've been looking for exactly this point of view - thanks. Couldn't decide whether to buy a basic Hero now or wait another 3 months until I could afford a "Silver" specifically so that I can frame my shoots.GreigM said:

So, a pole with maybe a 1/4" tripod thread at the base of the handle? Both the new GoPole Evo and the new GoPole Reach both have 1/4" tripod threads in the handle, see below...
These could then be connected to something like this...
