So, a pole with maybe a 1/4" tripod thread at the base of the handle?

Both the new GoPole Evo and the new GoPole Reach both have 1/4" tripod threads in the handle, see below...

These could then be connected to something like this...

Yep, thats the idea......wonder if they would suffer from vibration....would certainly give my track day videos some interesting perspectives.....

Is it worth the £80 more to get the new silver4 over the 3+?

I have a lunchtime urge to purchase!!

Argos have the Silver 3+ @ £200 - so the £80 could go towards SD card etc

I would 100% say the £80 is more than worth it.

The Silver Hero 4 is massively better than the Silver Hero 3+.

You can see the full spec differences between the two here >>> http://tinyurl.com/k3cqt8o

Just having the built-in LCD screen makes it worthwhile on its own without all the other camera spec differences!

Thanks for that, Boro. The 4 Silver does look like a big improvement over the 3/3+ Silver.

The 3/3+ Silver has always struggled in poor light, I have found, so the improvement on that should be good.

As an aside, is it just me who sees buying several Basics instead of one 4 much more appealing?

The single biggest problem with people's GoPro videos is the single-angle boredom so being able to properly rig a multi cam setup for the same cost is hugely appealing.

I think the best option here is one 'Master' cam (the 4) and several basics but I would take multi angles over resolution all day long.

This is my thinking but also reflects where/how I want to use them. For cycling and use within cars, I'd rather have multi-angles but I guess if I wanted to be behind the camera more to frame specific things, I might prefer the new Silver with its screen.

The thing about GoPro is that it's not really a handheld system so I think the LCD is of limited use. I mean, yes, it is convenient, but with a GoPro you tend to fit it to a fixed mount, align it, do it up tightly so it stays in that position, and then merely turn it on and off as required until you're done. So once it's aligned the LCD is of no further use until either playback or re-alignment.

Unless, as you say, you're using it handheld in which case it's useful. I guess people do use it handheld, so that probably invalidates the above paragraph. biggrin

If I'm honest, the screen backpack was the stupidest thing I bought for my Hero 2.

All it does now is get used to review stuff in the chalet or whatever. But actually not as it's quicker to just bang it onto the iPad or laptop.

As someone previously mentioned, they are so wide angle that you have to be struggling to 'miss' when you're setting it up, and further to that, the screen is hard to see in daylight, impossible to see underwater AND drains the batter and adds loads of weight.

Add to that the immense;y high res you can shoot in and it's easier to just go super-wide and crop in a bit (which also gives you free IS to a degree).

On the other hand I found the LCD Touchback on my 3+ made menu navigation so much easier. If you are new to owning a hero then this makes quite a lot of difference in learning how and what works for you. Once you are used to it the 2 button system works but to newcomers I could see it being awkward and non user friendly.

Question for boro:

Am heading out for another ski season this year, only gopro mounts I have for my 3 are chest, helmet and selfie stick.

Am wanting to film more stuff this year and make it more interesting too. Am tempted to get some sort of steadycam as I also try to film 'lifestyle' stuff, you know following people around town doing stupid stuff, in the bar etc not just skiing.

Any other accessories you would recommend? I've seen the steadicam curve on your website, and read some reviews saying its not balanced very well? Am not looking to spend mega money but want quality!

Hey Tim, the Steadicam Curve can be great but it does take patience in balancing it properly. Out of the box it's designed to be used with a BacPac of some description and is weighted as such. If you aren't using a BacPac then you'll also need the optional Weight Kit which will allow it to balance without the need for a BacPac to be attached.

My money would be spent of either the FeiYu-Tech 2 axis or 3 axis handheld motorised gimbals. Not the cheapest but definitely the best in terms of results. These use brushless motors and are REALLY easy to use out of the box.

Not sure why you would want to do any of that on a GoPro (or any POV camera) tbh.

You would be better off getting a normal camcorder smile

Oops I already bought the steadicam off your website and it's on its way to me! I'll see how I get on anyway. I only have the standard 3 without a bacpac. No worries though.

Want a cheap one as it'll be getting slung in a rucksack/dropped in snow etc.

RE: getting a camcorder, if you watch my video from last season (not amazingly edited etc) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAzGG_SBhXY&fe... you will see the 'lifestyle' shots I mean. Its more convenient for me to just had 1 camera. I actually think the gopro works well for filming stuff other than action

Hey Tim, how are you getting on with the Steadicam Curve? I noticed you said you don't have a BacPac for it and you might need the Weight Kit to balance it properly.

As you bought it from me initially, I can now send you a Weight Kit FOC. Drop me an email: info@hobbymounts.co.uk and I'll get one posted to you.

Certainly we've had a few instances on this thread alone of people saying the USB to mic lead doesn't work, and every time it has been an eBay cheapie they are using rather than the genuine GoPro one. yes
