Here's the official link on the GoPro website >>> http://gopro.com/news/unlock-new-camera-possibilit...

Next month GoPro will release some awesome new updates for the HERO4 Black and HERO4 Silver that will amp the camera's performance, capabilities and convenience even higher. Stay tuned to this News page for details on when the new firmware is available, but in the mean time, here's a sneak peek at what features the updates will unlock:

HERO4 Black and HERO4 Silver

Time lapse video mode - Capture Time Lapse videos automatically—no post-production needed. Showcase a sunrise, road trip or family gathering as a short, sharable video.
30/6 burst photo - Introducing a new way to never miss a moment. Capture 30 photos in 6 seconds—perfect for longer duration fast-action activities like surfing and snowboarding.
Auto rotate - Automatically adjusts capture orientation to right-side up when the camera is mounted upside down.

HERO4 Black

720p240 fps video - Record ultra high frame rate video at a staggering 240 frames per second for liquid smooth slow-motion playback
2.7K60 fps video - Capture cinematic, high-resolution 2.7K footage at an impressive 60 frames per second

HERO4 Silver

Add HiLight Tags during playback - Now you can mark key moments both while recording video and playing back content on the built-in touch display to quickly find highlights for easy editing and sharing.

One thing that is still missing in SONY is GoPro's ability to flip the footage and shoot upside down. Such a simple thing!

It looks like they finally fitted a normal screw mount!
A firmware update sorted this can now flip 180° and i think 90° to.

Screw mount is great as i hated using mine in the case.

Yep can't remember if the flip was on my hs30 but it is on the as100 plus a few other things.

Just noticed no steady shot on 4k shooting mode which isn't a problem as I'd shoot in 1080p but would steady shot still work on slow motion I'm not sure.

No worries bit of a pita to install but got there in the end.

I sent mine back due to dodgy hdmi so don't ask me to check anything. Miss it though so
Easy to chuck in a pocket.

As mentioned above, i just got the Hero4 Silver in Halfords. £289.99, and with a 10% off British Cycling card that came down to £261. (Actually they charged me £260 because working out 10% is a bit tricky for them).
Ordered through Quidco and its telling me to expect £8.70 cashback, so call it £251.30 in total.

How come Boro ? Hero 3 to 4 was a reasonably significant increase for the Silver/Black models.

Does anyone have any links to sites that offer good go pro tutorials? Looking to understand how to night lapse a bit better for astrophotography.

I would have thought the GoPro would be quite poorly suited for this. It doesn't have the lens size or the low light performance, although I have read that the 4's low light performance is much improved. But even so, it seems like a poor choice to me (although I have no evidence to support this one way or the other).

You need a proper DSLR for that...

GoPro have said it's because of exchange rates in Europe and it's inline with other electronic device companies price increases. I'm yet to see any evidence of other electronics going up in price as of yet and not sure the exchange rates have any bearing on 10% price increases.

Those are the new prices.

Hero 4 Black RRP £409.99
Hero 4 Silver RRP £329.99

We'll be holding the old prices as long as we can but eventually stock levels will mean we have to follow suit and increase prices.

The Hero 4's are pretty good at dealing with low light but will never be a replacement for a DSLR.

I was back looking at a 4 Silver to replace my 3 Silver but I won't be able to make the jump if they're going to cost that much more, it just pushes it out of range for a gadget like this for me. frown I was hoping to sell my 3 Silver and pay the balance to get a 4... not sure it makes as much sense now. The GoPro site has them at £ 369.99 and £289.99 today. When do the new prices kick in?

Also, I've read the comparison between the models on the GoPro site, but one of the reasons I was wanting to upgrade was so I could shoot 120fps at medium angle. (I want to use medium as it works best on the bike). Does anyone have a link to a list where I can see what settings the menus on the 4 Silver have? The GoPro site just lists them all and according that I can shoot 60fps Medium on my 3 Silver, but I can't (only using Wide, which looks stupid on the bike).

Cheers.

Andy

I think this picture answers my question, but I'd be keen to hear how people have got on with the 4 Silver - especially if they've gone from a 3 to a 4...

Prices still seem to be at the £270-290 mark for a 4 Silver. I'll check out what I might get for my 3 Silver and see if I can make the numbers stack up. Maybe it's time to just get on with it and eBay the old one!
