£359.99 yikes
It's a funny old world, if this was 5 years ago and it was priced at £3.5k they would've still sold by the bucket load to the broadcasters. We take for granted just how amazingly good these little things are. Like all technology, the price tumbles with time.

The reason I got mine for "hostile places" was after seeing them on that James May programme where they attached them to weather balloons that went to stupid heights then crashed back - the HD picture quality was amazing and so was the integrity of the recordings.
Let's also not forget they can shoot 4K at 15fps. Admittedly 15fps isn't going to be ultra smooth - but it's a 4K camera you can strap to your skateboard!

True, but let's also not forget that the cheapest 4k monitor/projector or tv is around £20000

Kinda pointless though. If you're quality-focused enough to shoot 4K I doubt you'd consider 15fps to cut the mustard.

Looks good but my HD2 still does what I need so I'm not tempted by the black edition. It does however tempt me to look at reduced price HD2s to add another to my car for multiple angles on one run.

That presumably more about getting high res stills rather than video though. In whcih case the high resolution makes more sense as it makes up for lack of zoom.

I tend to use my HD1 on 720p 25fps all the time as if you go much bigger than that the file sizes are huge and I'd end up spending a fortune on hard drives to keep all the video on. I took about 100GB on video on my last holiday as it is, dread to think how much I'd take at 4k biggrin

Same here, but I'd want a wifi backpack if I bought a second camera so the mid spec version of the HD3 might make more sense.

Why are they still selling that bulky remote now that the App is out?

AFAIK the app hasn't landed for Android yet, and not everyone wants to use a smartphone..

Cool, so how much can we expect the Hero 2 to be selling for when this comes out?

Which Mic did you go for? I'm looking for one as well but not sure what to go for...
+1
After a bit of research, I've ordered the Olympus ME-51S which looked like a good choice for the price and size.

I've also seen the answer to my audio improvement question at the GoPro site:

"Redesigned Audio System - Understanding that sound quality is as important as image quality, GoPro engineers completely redesigned the HERO3 to be as adept at capturing the subtle, natural sounds of voice and music as it is at capturing the immersive sounds of sport. Also improved is GoPro's already famous wind-noise reduction, ensuring that you'll hear more of your passion, be it your engine or expletives, and less of the wind during high speed activities."

I also like the new Frame case. Never quite understood why would we need the full plastic casing in closed quarters such as cars. I hope they release one for the Hero 2 as well.

I got HD2 few months ago. Not too upset new model coming out. Have got some priceless footage with HD2, but will consider new model. Can never have too many angles.

Because it's less bulky than a phone, tougher than a phone, waterproof, can be used with gloves on, and the battery lasts longer?

While Im here

as anyone checked out the Sony Action Cam?

Cheap (ish)

Very small, and very light at 90g. 16 MP EXMOR R (back lit) sensor. Built in Wifi ($270 version - sends image to smart phone app, $199 without this), 170deg FOV. 1080p/30 recording and 720p/30 + slow and super slow modes (not sure what frame rate this is as they don't say... I would assume though that its 60fps and 130fps).

Comes with a decent UW case (60m and has a flat lens on the front) and a nifty little attachment that turns it into a handycam with a 2.7" articulated screen.

Seems like a nice little bit of kit... and was well on par with the Hero 2 and the Contour HD +2. Sony have only just released this and now they are a step behind! lol.

Apparently produces very nice video though. Handles changes in exposure very well and always gets the colours right.

Seconded. It's awfully difficult to get good info about what inputs the GoPro will accept so that helps, ta!

Hmm, they look pretty good. Now I'm not sure whether to get one of them or a GoPro3
