I really like the composition in this one, but its a shame to go to all that effort and then leave the blurry mess on the number plate! Wouldn't take two seconds to clone a couple of identifying numbers off the plate effectively. My new lights finally arrived; nothing fancy but some cheap portable studio lights. Thought I'd show you the differences with using them.
- 1 - Available light (artificial in garage):
- 2 - Both lights, no ambient, no editing:
- 3 - Four frame composite, levels/sharpen (plus cloned a few highlights up before my 5mins was up):

I'm heading to Goodwood on Friday for a trackday although not taking my car out so I'm planning on trying to get back into using my dslr.
I've got a 50mm 1.4 prime and a 100-300mm zoom lens.
Any thoughts on type of shots I should try? I'm just looking to learn how to use the camera again as it's been a long long while!
Was thinking maybe some long exposure stuff, or I might even try a video with the prime lens.

This shot deserves more praise. That is some high standard PP, Rogue. Any special technique? The front RR really pops.
Thanks Robbie It's a three-frame composite so that I could cover all reflections with the CPL, merged in PS and followed by some reflection cleaning on the glass. Then some final darkroom stuff (levels, sharpening, colour correction). About a ten-minute edit all-in though if memory serves so not as complex as it might read.A lot of making that car 'pop' was in the planning to be honest, positioning the cars, distances, time of day. Considering the time I had and the brief I was given, I was happy with the outcome. Not how I would have done it with full-control but sometimes you can only work with what you've got!
