Took a few of the old boat down the beach. Think I need to make them more contrasty though as they dont 'ping' much. I just wanted to avoid clipping and losing the lovely clouds and making things look a bit more filmic than electronic. Maybe drop the luminance first and then push the contrast a bit more?

Another greeny fave :
What beach did you take this on?

I think you are right mate - pushed it a bit below but kept it subtle and 'cinematic'. Wish I could move the vignette to the right a bit. Doesn't seem to be any way to do that in Camera RAW?

Have you tried yo just 'dodge and burn' to move it across a little?

Standing order!

LOL - sorry a typo. Its SOOOOO not F2.8 all the way - its at least half a stop down at 70mm smile

I'm actually looking at the Canon 24-105 F4 - seems to be a good buy at about £500 for a full frame L lens - our 24-70 F2.8 is triple!
No idea how it stands up cinematically but it's pretty solidly useful as a stills lens.

You might get one for something much closer to £400 these days - there seem to be plenty out there liberated from Kit systems.
I've been using a 24-105 lens on my new 5D mk iii recently and haven't been too impressed with the results to be honest. They are great on a 1D mk iv but its obviously not full frame. I've just had the lens calibrated (by Canon) to the body. I haven't had a chance to try it since, but calibrating does usually make a difference.

Thought I'd add some shots of my rental car while in Death Valley recently.

Yes quite a bit of that on the sand already as it was brighter than the car. I think I need more patience wink

I've borrowed a few 24-105s and didn't really think they popped. The 24-70 blows it out of the water in terms of sharpness though, obviously at the expense of reach and IS.

I think you've overcooked this one. The shadows don't make much sense and it gives it the impression of being flat when I reckon by the beautiful light, it was quite contrasty. Also you're getting banding in the sky, although I guess that could be Thumbsnap's downsizing.

I totally agree, I was short of time and I'm still getting to grips with my new HDR software but wanted to get some images posted. I'm going to go back to it when I have time ... whenever that will be.

Here are a few of my more recent efforts:

Maurizio Fabris - 2007 Maserati MC12 Stradale at the 2015 Salon Prive Supercar Show (Photo 5) by Dave Adams, on Flickr

Andy Dee-Crowne and Sam Thomas - 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray at the 2015 Silverstone HSCC Finals (Photo 3) by Dave Adams, on Flickr

Private Collector - 2015 Lotus Exige V6 Cup at Oulton Park by Dave Adams, on Flickr

Its been a busy years this year, with plenty of events and photos taken. Salon Prive was a new one for me, and was quite nice early doors and late on when the crowds disappeared.

That's Morfa Bychan near Porthmadog in N Wales. Took every ounce of self restraint not to fire up the LSD or do more than 5mph and hence fill the rear mounted gearbox's cooling rad up with sand etc!
