Thank you!

It's been a touch popular, 30,000 + views on flickr in a day and a half.

That's awesome Mark.

I've been asked to use a drone to photograph an airfield for a company I have worked with before. It's controlled by an app. I might like RC things and photography but all sounds very expensive and unnerving. hehe

That sounds like the Phantom Vision I use. Be careful, to use them in any shape or form commercially becomes a big issue, needing licencing, permission off the CAA etc. I've got architects who would love me to shoot some aerials when I am working for them but until I frame up and take the licence I can't.

Hmm - I hadn't considered that. The company document airfields and military airbases for historic record (usually British Heritage) so they may have permission. I definitely won't have permission when I take it for an impromptu joyride for a few landscapes though! hehe

Your non commercial landscapes are no problem, you'd need the licence yourself to do the commercial work though, even if they are fine with you flying over the land.

Ok cheers Mark, I'll let the company know. I'm not sure they're even aware of the necessary boxes to tick, they just fancy a drone!

Did you tweak the photo at all? I've never managed to get anything remotely that good out of the GoPro 3 on my Phantom 2.

It was shot in raw, so needs completing to make it a photo, editing took less than a minute, so nothing particularly heavy duty, lens correction to stop it looking fisheye, contrast, a software grad on the sky, into CS6 and some dynamic contrast in Nik Color Efex.

Mark that pic is excellent.

I must get a few taken. Weather has been pants though.

I would recommend that everyone reads up on the Air Navigation Order before taking pictures.

Also the FAA have introduced some tough new laws and the CAA might just follow.

I am hoping to take the exam but I've a disability that might go against me.

Must get an order in with Boro for some batteries and screen.

Which tracker have you gone for? I've put a tk102b on mine, not terribly elegant but peace of mind

Is there anyone here that uses the Phantom or other quad for commercial use? I would like to speak to someone in the know about a few things.

Cheers

Just ordered a phantom 2 vision+

Any tips for when it arrives?

GPS tracker seems recommended?

Iv been doing a bit more research before i make a purchase.

Am I right in thinking that with the standard Phantom 2 vision the only way to use FPV is by using an ios device? And the maximum distance is 300M?

Has anyone tried buying the regular Phantom 2 and installing there own FPV setup? I have been looking at the Immersion and Fatshark 5.8Ghz Txs and monitors on firstpersonview.co.uk, and they can also supply a premade cable that connects directly onto the PCB of the Vision.

This setup will give 1-2km video range and comes in at pretty much the same price as the Phantom 2 Vision. This seems a lot better than the standard setup, but am I missing something?

You can use Android too I understand though I've never tried it.

A good upgrade if you want more FPV range is the Vision+ RE700 range extender, I've had much better range out of mine with one fitted.

What swayed me is the camera with the vision/+ is capable of shooting in DNG raw, which as a stills photographer appealed.

By far the best Phantom for video is the H3-3D Gimbal'd version for GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 3+ Cameras but it's a bit of an outlay once you add everything up it comes to about £1400 including the GoPro. For stills the V2+ is still they way to go.

Mark, I tried the RF-V16 but although it's alot smaller and lighter than the TK102, it's not as reliable. I may try another one just incase I got a bad one as it is much more suitable for the Phantom.
