The new 3 does look pretty good. Good price for it too considering it has lightbridge which is £800 on it's own!

Bit gutted I got the V2+ when it was released now, but that's all part of developing technology I suppose.

It still is an awesome piece of kit and had no problems from it so far, touch wood.

I'm saving for the Inspire..the dual control's is something I'm after. Sometimes doing tricky flying and trying to frame the shot is a bit troublesome.

I think it would be a lot easier just to focus on the flying and let someone else sort the camera out.

I have the Inspire with dual controls and am very impressed with the whole package. I brought it because I have a S1000 and when I upgraded the firmware for the first time it sent the gimbal and camera into a violent and uncontrollable spasm, so I had to send it back for a warranty repair. My only complaint about the Inspire is that the flight simulator is only available for the Apple platform and not Android and I really dislike Apple and refuse to use them, this is probably the same on the P3.

I am very tempted by the P3 and am likely to upgrade from my P2V+ in the next few weeks.

I'm on my BNUC-S ground course this week - fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

No props in your footage, faster and steadier flight.

Boro is the 4k camera on the PH3 a lenticular lens (no fish eye) and can the 4k be reduced to 1080p 60fps?

If it was 4K at 30fps only this would be a problem for low light days.

I take it the batteries are exactly the same as the PH2.
Looking at the specs, the battery is different in the P3 to the P2, sadly.

Good luck with the BNUC-S. I really want to do this myself but I'm in NI and have limited options. So it would probably cost a fair bit more to do.

Any tips/feedback on the subject would be appreciated.

Looking at Euro USC they run the course in Dublin - next one is in May.

Appreciate it may be a distance from yourself. I did the BNUC-S course with them though and I'd recommend them

Having played and crashed a few cheap Quadcopters over the last couple of months. Can you imagine how surprised I was yesterday when a nice man from DPD delivered an Inspire 1. My good lady had ordered it without my knowing and I'm now committed to doing a bit more overtime. biggrin

Well, I passed my BNUC-S ground course with 97%, win.

I did, however, experience my first and hopefully only fly-away. Can't explain it either, 75% battery, clear day, little wind, 8 satellites, good compass calibration - the works. I'd done some low level maneuvers, all fine. At about 200 ft away at an altitude of 150 ft it suddenly lost control, flew in a single direction for maybe 50 ft before dropping straight down, like a stone.

It landed in a thick rapeseed field and after several hours of searching, over 2 days, I finally found it! Motors still run, GPS and compass seem ok but the camera is damaged and the gimbal sheered in two.

I simply cannot explain it!

Last image before it plummeted to its doom (it's a bit yellow, not had much editing time):

Oh god, another money pit of a hobby. I used to fly RC planes, mostly competitive aerobatics, some while ago, but fell away from the hobby when the club I belonged to lost their flying site. I've remained in touch with how the hobby has developed, but am still amazed with what they can pack in to a small craft these days, compared to the kit we used to use (old 35mhz kit anyone?)

Due to one of my work colleagues being in to drones, I started looking at them after I bought a GoPro earlier this year for use during my diving trips. I'm also in to photography, so it all seemed a logical step. Well, I've just bought a Phantom 2 with Zenmuse gimbal, and am already looking at adding FPV to help frame my shots better. Even worse, I've also got my eye on the Inspire 1 as having seen a review of it, it looks like an amazing bit of kit out of the box, and being able to split the flying and camera controls sounds like a really good idea.

Just got to sweet talk the OH over to my thinking now.

Fantastic news (well about the course anyway) did you get my email? I was worried it had gone to your spam as hotmail seems to have a thing about gmail addresses at the moment.
Flyaway sounds a bit scary, glad you got it back. Did you try switching to attitude mode?

The fear of flyways are the prime reason I haven't ponied up the dough for a P2V+

Anyone seen any reports of flyaways with the new P3?

No, I didn't, I wasn't sure if you'd received mine. I'll have a look in my spam later, Hotmail can be so fussy at times! Thanks for responding anyway, even if I didn't manage to pick it up, turns out I did ok in the end.

smile

I wasn't able to react quick enough to switch it to Atti, to be honest it all happened so fast, it drifted for a few seconds then just dropped, not enough time for me to try any corrective measures.

Have a look on ebay for a GPS locator, I know it doesn't fix the flyaway issue but at least you'll be able to find it straight away.
I think you send a text to a phone number and it pings back its longitude and latitude

I have had 3 'fly aways' or more like drop out the sky like a stone with my P2V+, once was over a swimming pool!

I barely fly it anymore due to no confidence in it - and I'm on my second.

I've been offered a Phantom 2 FPV secondhand for £450 with a couple of batteries, is this a good price?

I've tried looking through the completed listings on eBay, but I don't think it reflects the new pricing now the three is out.

Wonder if anyone can advise?

I already have a parrot 2.0 drone, video somewhat basic and I've never managed to make it fly with a GoPro attached to it....

I'm tempted by the new Phantom 3, however before I spend another chunk of cash, I'm trying to understand the legalities.

I'm primarily looking to use it to do aerial videos of buildings. These are large commercial premises, eg Manor House in 25 acres.

The company I work for own these buildings, and thus are 'in our control' I will not be receiving specific payment for filming, however I do receive a salary from the company. Ultimately we will be using these videos on our websites as promotional tools. The drone will belong to the company.

So does this count as commercial work? And if so do I need to do a course?

I tend to think it is, but others have said as no payment being received and in control of the buildings it does not count as commercial.

Would welcome some guidance!

I would say it's a grey area, I think you might be ok http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=1995&p... however if it's considered you are making a profit from the footage then I guess it is commercial work.

However the CAA are generally a friendly bunch so if you give them a call they will happily advise.

As the holder of a CAA UAS permit for aerial work, it is my understanding that you'd need the same for what you want to do. Good luck getting anything out of the CAA, my own experience of them is that while they may be friendly, the department for all matters UAS are a nightmare for responding.

Now, I know that a training company might be tempted to sell you a product you don't need, but I can recommend resource group ( http://www.resourcegroup.co.uk/what-we-do/training... ). Speak to Craig and he'll give you a clear answer quicker than the CAA regarding your specific requirement.

Best Regards,
Olly
