Thanks for the advice, will endeavour to get some clarity from the CAA. In a former life I did have a CAA AOC!

I bought a s/h phantom 2 with 4k gopro and FPV setup and it was awesome...a proper toy...reminded me of how good gadgets were when you first got to try them as a kid.
Then I saw the press release for the 3 and realised I needed one so flogged the P2 sharpish. I've been waiting until the missus was in Europe on business and coming back by train as she can hand carry it for me and save me about £200 on uk price.
Just for the lightbridge alone it looks awesome value so I can't wait for her to bring it back tomorrow. From the reviews I've read as well it's a major improvement in terms of power, stability etc of the P2 (which was pretty good to start with)
I'm lucky enough that my garden backs onto farmland and the farmer has no issue with me flying over it so I can whizz it up early in the morning and get some really nice sunrise shots.
I'll let you know my initial impressions of it over a P2
regards
Ben

Got my Phantom 3 Pro on Thursday and already racked up 30Km's of 'flying' with it. The whole interface with the iPad is amazing and the 720p footage it streams faultlessly really gives you the confidence to fly it from the monitor.
I'm very amateur when it comes to photography and compared to a DSLR obviously the pictures aren't going to be amazing. However, the sunset was looking pretty good lastnight so I whizzed it up, left it hovering at 100m and then took some DNG files and then tweaked them afterwards.
If it's another nice sunset tonight I'll try the autobracketing feature and see if I can get a sweep to make a panoramic shot.

Very quiet in here.
Anyway, i'm back in the UK with my new phantom and strapped my cheap SJCAM SJ4000 to it. Once i'd sussed out the start up stuff and got it in the air it's pretty cool indeed.
I can see the allure of FPV though so once i've cut my teeth on this who know's what's next.
I'll get some stills up soon when i've mastered framing shots from the ground
I see that DJI have issued a notice that using the wifi on the cameras can interfere with the operation of the drone but i'm tempted to use my phone to see what's what and go further afield.

They say that because the wi-fi on your phone is exactly the same frequency that the Phantom operates on. Could possibly get away with it if flying close to your transmitter but I personally wouldn't trust it for use when the Phantom is any appreciable distance away as the signal from the camera could swamp the incoming signal from the Tx.

Aye, both operate at 2.4Ghz i believe. it's no big deal just now. i've got a hang of the perception and orientation. Just limited by my own field of vision. i'm not sure if there is any FPV options available for the phantom 1. To google i go.

The Phantom 2 Vision does for that very reason - avoiding interference from the video wi-fi. Regular Phantoms operate on the same frequency as wi-fi. I'm not sure about the Phantom 3, but it may well be the same as the Vision seeing as it has it's own built in camera and operates in a similar way.

The trouble is though 5.8Ghz is restricted to 25mw whereas 2.4ghz can run at 100mw.Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
