You don't need full insurance yet - I saw no point in paying for full business insurance until I had my Permission.What I did instead was join the BMFA (www.bmfa.org) which includes insurance for personal use - this insurance used to cover you for the flying assessment, but no longer does - fortunately you can pay for add-on DDD cover through the bmfa.
It is definitely worth investigating as a year's business insurance is quite expensive if you are going to have to wait a while to get up your Permission through.
Joining the BMFA is a no-brainer anyway.

Very frustrated!
Perfect weather conditions today, sun at just the right angle on one of our buildings, clear blue skies, minimal wind.... Ideal for the photographs I've been waiting to do!
Sadly the phantom 3 felt otherwise inclined...
Whilst it connected with the app, there was no video feed to and from the drone, nor could I move the camera. It would fly ok, but only used for a very short time as suspect there is a fault.
Before I start the warranty process, anyone think of any schoolboy error I may be making?

Can't help you with the fault as mine is a 2, but I think you need to have a spare if you are going to do this for a living as they is so much to go wrong in these drones. I took my advance out yesterday but didn't get very far.
SD card was full for a start but when i tried to take off the drone was all over the place. Wouldn't hover would't go where i told it. I managed to catch it mid-air and shut it down.
Took it home and went through troubleshooting but everything from a systems perspective looked fine.
Turns out there was a small piece of one of the props missing at the end that i hadn't noticed, i do remember lightly clipping an object but thought nothing of it.
Anyway, replaced props and all was well. Just goes to show how important balance is with these things.

It's my first ever drone and all I can say is, i am hooked! It's fantastic. So easy to fly, the video quality is amazing and it just works. The DJI Go app is great too.
I've been flying it out in the sticks near where I live, so away from built up areas as I am unsure of the laws yet but looking into those as we speak.
