I am glad I bought it from Fast Lads as they have been nothing but a god send; absolutely can't do enough to help solve the problems.

Just DJI at the other end being useless as per.

It's the batteries that wind me up. The fact I needed to buy loads of £100 batteries for my P2 that are now useless in any other models. Can you use P4 batteries in a P4pro?

You can but the P4 Pro ones are bigger, and more expensive.

I thought that might be the case - at least you battery investment isn't wasted.

I had decided on a P4 instead of a Mavic to replace my P2 - not so sure now - I might just wait and see what happens, or maybe I will buy a P4 if they have a fire sale.

Heh, I got shouted down for saying as much on the other thread smile

Still can't figure out what their strategy is for killing off the 'cheap' Phantoms.

Does this make the Mavic the 'consumer' drone, the P4P the 'prosumer' and the Inspire the halo model?

Pretty much, as with most companies they've realised there's no point competing on the low end.

There's nothing that DJI sell that could be considered low end. You can buy a bare drone for thirty quid and a 4K capable machine for £300. DJI's 'base model' is at least half as much again.

Exactly what I said, they aren't bothering with 'low end'.

They do still sell the Phantom 3 Standard though for £509, and the Phantom 4 although it's more than the Mavic and I don't see why anyone would buy one over it.

What I meant was, they've not been the cheap option for a long time.

I thought their announcement was that they've canned both the P3 and the P4 standard. The only Phantom they're making is the P4P?

They now own (or own most of) Hasselblad.... So I'd expect the new Inspire2 cameras to be out of date/unsupported in the near future as well.

The Hasselblad acquisition is a bit odd. Hasselblad were quite slow to pick up digital and are mainly a medium format company that has bounced between Chinese ownership and VC firms. Their digital gear seems to be mainly rebranded Sony stuff? To an outsider, it seems the name is worth more than the tech.

I didn't see any announcement but they're still selling them on their site, maybe just clearing stock.

I can see a reason for selling the P3 but as said other than giving people an option to get one straight away rather than waiting for a Mavic I can't see a reason to get a P4 now.

Here's some coverage of the announcement: http://www.wetalkuav.com/phantom-4-discontinued-pr...

Yep I cant see a sudden influx of 'blad toting drones flying around.

High end gear is there but usually it flies a7's or red video cameras etc. I cant remember an instance of any drone flying with a mf blad on.

The latest DJI kit is great to be fair, we are a reseller of the kit and biased on this versus say Yuneeq though!

We've had the new inspire out of the box and visible on our CAA course this week and it does feel like a good value for money product over the existing Inspire. However the Mavic and P4 pro rightly fit the bill for a lot of customers doing industrial work so its horses for courses! I use an old Inspire and have been happy with that for a while for example, but I still carry an iPhone 4 so I'm not as keen to change just for the sake of it.

Understand the confusion on strategy on what's entry level / mid level and high level and we claim no insight into what DJI may be thinking over the long term. We did a Hasselblad package before the announcement and it got pulled shortly afterwards for around £20k from memory. But the range evolves which is giving us lots to talk about at the moment!

I would say that most of the pro users we deal with in pro film are looking for industrial grade drones they can attach their existing range of DSLR cameras to which means the SUAS platform itself isn't out of date as soon as a new camera arrives on the scene and the manufacturer changes the interface tech. However these are around £20K entry level weatherproof drones but we do supply more and more to keen start-ups at this level than we used to.

When you reach that kind of level, it feels more like a small aircraft you own as opposed to high end consumer kit, regardless of if you go over 7KG or not.

We are just in the process of specifying a couple of £250K drones (well the company is!) that are like 1/4 helicopters for a big offshore job we are doing. All the SUAS up to this level fly like the Phantom and anyone can quickly pick them up.

At the £250K level though, they start to need cyclic control and we find that helicopter pilots (model and full sized) adjust better to flying them initially than people like me that started on P4 or Inspire.

Fascinating thing is like has been said before, it's evolving weekly with the new kit and applications that are becoming available. Had a few PH guys in touch looking at new avenues using drones already this year.

I unfortunaltey had to cancel my order for the Mavic that I placed last year.

However I am looking for one again now, in time for trip to Iceland in March.

Looks like the shipping dates keep getting pushed back though and no one has stock?

Does anyone know of any stock, ready to go, of the fly more package?

My Phantom 2 and gopro will never die biggrin

I had promised myself an Inspire 2 if my health began to improve but by heck the DNG options are a tad pricey.

Add to that, what should really be a 5 year investment for kit is in reality a 2 year item at most with DJI.

Always interested in becoming qualified but things are afoot. If we all have to take a test then getting commercial might not be such a big leap.

I bought a Phantom 3 Standard at Christmas and have been bitten by the drone bug, and have decided to "upgrade" to a Mavic Pro. I've only used the 3 for around 5/6 flights and it's in perfect condition; apart from advertising in the PH classifieds, are there any other forum classifieds I could use as I really want to avoid eBay. I've also got a spare genuine battery (unopened) which I will sell separately.
