ETA... it's weird that the price includes a 50mmm 1.8 lens. (I already have a 1.4)

I think it misses the mark.

Too fat and chunky. It fails in the way fuji just doesnt.

In fairness though it is a full frame camera and is a DSLR which still offers big advantages in terms of auto focus when tracking moving subjects. This seems to me to be a bit of a half way house for people like me who love retro cameras but can't quite get away without a DSLR in the kit bag. Shame I don't have the £'s though frown

I'm kind of surprised that it's effectively a D4 but with buttons, and is £1500 cheaper than a D4.

Does appear to be exactly that! I've convinced myself thats its the cheapest way to upgrade my, old, trusty D3 (I can live with the DF's 5.5 FPS)

For something that's supposed to be 'pure'
it looks overweight, oversized, and over-complicated -
a kind of retro on steroids!

I wonder how easy it will be to unlock the dials and alter settings whilst having your eye up the to viewfinder?

Isn't it more like a 610 with buttons, fitted with a D4 sensor but at a D800 price point?

I don't want one but I like it.

So nice to see proper dials instead of 'menus'.

You are of course, right... but it's a cheap way into a D4 sensor. With a prime lens included in the cost. (I still think that's a bit weird. I guess they are trying to attract new / retro buyers who won't already have a bunch of Nikkor glass).

Anyway, I have absolutely no need for this camera. So I'll probably buy one.... if and when I've seen and survived the iceberg sized tax bill in January.

I think the prime lens is because they're trying to make a digital version of an F-series camera - and they would have had 50mm lenses for starters. Stick a fancy AF zoom on it and you're losing the 'retro'.

Remember that it wil be used wholly and exclusively for the purposes of business.

Well it does make sounds...

I like the look of it, but I don't think I'll be buying one.

I want one too.

What swung it for me was the old skool leather case, just like my dear old dad used to have on his old film slr.

And the picture of the lens with the coloured F Stops on it too!!

Better start saving!!

I'll be honest and say it is absolutely not for me. I prefer modern slimline design and ergonomics.

But... It's a great idea by Nikon to stick a top rated sensor in such a beautiful and compact body, and I can see why it will appeal to many, and I suspect sales figures will be excellent.

How about this though: http://fstoppers.com/the-nikon-df-represents-every...
They have a point. People will be buying this because it's "retro" and has a "nice leather case" rather than 'what spec is it?' or 'is it right for the type of photography I do'.

But does any of that matter?
