After looking at my shots from this year, I am surprised at how little travel and effort I have put into my photography .
But here is a selection of my main interests

Havent been out much this year but that was mostly intentional, makes you take a new look at approaches to photography and not produce the same stuff over and over. Hard choice to pick 5!

Excellent photos mate. I grew up along that coastline and am still amazed by its beauty every time I go back. Then reality strikes hard as I have to turn the car around from the coast and head back into Irvine to see my folks!

Truly amazing scenery with great photo opportunities. Pity about the decline of the bigger towns in the area.
Thanks smile Its only over the last few years i have truly grown to appreciate how lucky i am to live in this area , so much amazing scenery as you say. Irvine is about the only town on the coast i haven't got an image from , too worried about walking around there with my expensive gear biggrin

This has always been a great thread to look through, this year is no exception, very well done everyone clap.

I'll start with my main interest, birds. I got some new gear this year which allowed me to get closer to the action on the days when I manage to get out. I got some results I liked, including this one which I took today:

Aww...I thought I'd found another Heron... by 2slo7, on Flickr

Apart from birds, I've spent time working on my people and landscape work this year too. A long way to go but I think it's a bit better than this time last year:

Looking forward to getting out more next year, including a couple of overseas trips.

Threads like this make be both humbled and embarrassed. I'd be ashamed to post any of my shots up here.

Firstly, WOW! Just, WOW!! Some truly fantastic photos on this thread.
I have been a long time lurker on this section of P&P, always admiring the skill and talent of people that can take such stunning photographs.

But this particular thread has made me see there is more to life than sitting in an office, tapping away at a keyboard. My New Year Resolution is pick up a camera and see what happens, get out and enjoy our countryside.

Wish me luck!

And a sincere thank you clap
Good luck! smile

One great thing about looking at a year in review is seeing how people progress. Folks who have just started in photography (or seasoned professionals) learning new skills and putting them into practise.

The PH P&V section is also a great place to learn, many talented and experienced people to answer questions smile

Every year this thread reminds me of the calibre of photographers we have on PH and it is staggering. I'm disappointed with this year for me. I was working very hard towards a non-photographic goal (which I achieved) but I still feel I could have made more effort. I didn't really take many shots at all, FAR fewer than 2012. Nevermind, here are my top 5:

My efforts for 2013 smile

1. I was after a silhouette but getting the girl posing was an almost unbelievable fluke

2. Got this one on the way back to the car after getting the shot I wanted for the night - not a bad bonus!

A fairly rainy/cloudy/stormy as hell trip to NY so this turned out to be my favorite photo!

Startrails with the Northern lights, turns out after about half an hour I get bored and start arsing about.

Going to Iceland is almost cheating.

I've been getting a lot more into portraiture this year, Big Andy just wanted a shot for his website.

My wife (not in photo) is not too happy at the turn my shots have taken. Can't think why.
Loving quite a lot of these, must try harder next year! I've gone for the fairly random ones that jump out at me when I look back.

Great stuff on this thread as you'd expect from the assembled crowd of great togs.
Such a wide variety of shots, styles and subject matter too - great fun to look through.
I've barely touched my camera since September, but I managed a few good shots prior to then. hehe

Don't normally post in any of these threads because I am generally frustrated with my photos! I eventually get the hump and some never get out of lightroom. Some do make it on to Flickr though. Not going to hold a candle to some on here, but here goes:

First up one from the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, near Detroit. I was in Detroit presenting at the SAE world conference but managed to blag entry to the museum on expenses as it can be classed as educational! One car I particularly liked (although the museum is far from just cars, its a collection of everything! They even have an old steam engine that used to run the factory there, the chair lincoln was shot in and the worlds largest steam locos!) was the Chrysler turbine car. I love the 50's optimism.

Next, a quick shot in fading light next to a river in Yosemite!

Golden Gate bridge from the Prisidio in SF. I think on the lawn outside Lucas Arts or whatever!

Palace of Fine Art which is over the road from where I took the above one:

And I am going to cheat and post a sixth because I just couldn't decide which of the others to dump. Plus she's my OH and she was bridesmaid for a recent vegas wedding and she is beautiful so I don't think anyone can complain! :P
