Out of interest, where does it say that? I'm not saying it doesn't, but in 16 years I've never read it.

You surely can't be referring to advertising?:

"Do not post or link for the purposes of advertising or personal gain (including cars for sale) or cross-post across multiple forums. If you wish to advertise please use the classifieds or contact us directly."

It's awkwardly written, but I read it that the second part of that sentence doesn't refer to the first part. If advertising isn't allowed anyway, outlawing the repeating of that advertising across multiple forums doesn't make sense.

But if people are ok with posters posting the same pictures on different threads then who am I to disagree? I think it's a bad idea myself, and should I have macro or drone pictures to post them I will do that in the appropriate threads, but if others take a different view then they should go ahead.

Thanks Mikeveal. Terrible place, but I am glad its been preserved and it should always be preserved....this picture below still makes me feel empty looking at it. The rail tracks and the cattle cars are not pleasant, but its when you go for a walk in the area behind that and you see chimney stacks (from the huts they crammed people into, which the Nazi's burned down to try hide the evidence). Its just chimney stacks as far as you could see....
I'm off topic, but...
I took my camera, but couldn't bring myself to take it out of the bag.

Rob, you mentioned Anne Frank's house. Auschwitz makes Anne Frank's look like a theme park.
When you see the showers extermination room, the warehouses full of human hair / shoes, the cells so small that the occupants were forced to stand...
Nothing I've ever seen or done has had such a large impact on me. Its a very emotional place. Yet despite the horrors that were perpetrated, you don't leave feeling negative and depressed. Rather it left me thoughtful and determined never to let this happen again.
Everyone should go once, we'd all be a lot more tolerant of each other.

Stunning!

Can you see the Milky Way with the naked eye like that? I've never taken a Milky Way shot but am hoping to from Lake Tahoe this summer. Any tips on how to do it? Do you use one of those things that rotates your camera at the same pace as the earth rotates to combat star trails?
You can see it, not that bright but easily visible, no colours as the eyes cant see in low light.

No tracking but it is a stitch of 18 shots (for that one) 20 seconds each at iso 6400 f2.8, thats a lot of exposure time (6min), your eyes cant do that! No tracking either I dont do that

Currently travelling through Sri Lanka at the moment. On our way down to Galle we hopped onto a river boat tour. I got lucky with catching a monk returning from a island to the mainland on this one. The background was a grey washed out colour so I think this edit works well.

One of my favourite shots I've taken this year. The bond between these two is just fantastic and this just sums it up.

So by that reasoning a image in the drone thread or any other 'specialist' thread cannot therefore be posted in a competition thread! That sounds totally unreasonable and most unlikely to be the intent of that aforesaid 'rule'. There have been many cross postings in the time that I have been on here, I have done it myself where an image will or can be related to a number of thread. I think this 'ruling' needs to be more carefully thought out and applied.

I don't think the 'ruling' is applied much, if at all. I agree that it would be good if the rules were made clearer, but as already stated, I'm not that bothered either way. My opinion though is that if there are specific threads for pictures of a particular type, then that's the place for them. It would start to get a bit cluttered here if everybody who had drone, cars, macro and bird pictures posted them all in here as well.

They are 'random photos' that some people who don't go in the drone photos thread, won't be able to enjoy. I don't see the problem..
If you put your car in the pictures and a bird you could post your pics in the bird thread AND the car thread AND the drone thread AND the random pics thread AND the readers' cars thread.

Think of all that enjoymentsmile
