Random Photos : Part 4

Wanted to try my new Canon G16 in the dark last night hoping to get at least one meteor?!
The G16 did ok, had a bit of a play, saw quite a few shooting stars but didn't manage to photograph any. I did find the recording time on the memory card a little frustrating! (The 20sec exposure took about 20 seconds to record?!)

If anyone is interested I've put together an end of year video comprising of both stills and video, would love some feedback https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU7HsLxhWIM
The video is fab Lloyd - beautiful images and music works well. Only crit would be I wanted to see more of some of the sequences, particularly at the start (although I can see why you cut them to match the music - in principle a good idea). How are you going to top that lot in 2015 ?!RobDickinson said:
Awesome Lloyd!
Thanks guys DD I know what you're saying, I didn't want to bore people with long bits of video and also felt like I didn't have enough to drag it out too much I wish I'd recorded more, especially at Hot Blade. No idea to be honest, but I already have a few interesting shoots lined up. There is one big thing missing for me and thats a FJ A2A, maybe that'll change next year!
Thanks for watching!

Yes, does sound like long exposure noise reduction. The G16 did ok, had a bit of a play, saw quite a few shooting stars but didn't manage to photograph any. I did find the recording time on the memory card a little frustrating! (The 20sec exposure took about 20 seconds to record?!)
Capturing meteors is typically very tough and depends a lot on luck. For the shot below I took 200 photos consecutively over the space of 1h 20m or so. I was viewing meteors at a rate of at least one a minute but only 8 made it as far as the camera's sensor. Best things to do to improve chance of success is take as much control of camera as possible: high ISO & wide aperture are each a must; then adjust shutter speed to achieve the ambient light levels you're after.

Other than that I'm totally impressed with the G16, it ticks all the boxes I was looking for and is small enough to take anywhere - especially on the bike. I'm now fighting with the idea of selling off the 400D and the rest of the kit? I like the idea of having both but I don't like the idea of not using it much, if at all?!
Lovely sunset tonight. Just wish I wasn't using a kit lens to capture it.

Another good sunset tonight - when the low level clouds cleared enough for it to be visible (nigh on 50mph winds helps that though.)
