Perched high above the crashing ocean huge cliffs drop off to either side , balanced on a knife edge , tripod locked only marginally in place I waited the dawn of a new day.
Nugget point is a spectacular place to visit, in some ways an easy place to shoot, but in others not so!
You dont get many chances to shoot such a location with great light and a long exposure like this!

A few more DH photos from me from various recent races. Nice to be out covered in dust rather than thick gloopy mud!

@Rob D
Sorry, so involved in banter with DD about Invenice (Injoke) I just forgot to comment on the two most recent images of yours. Especially outstanding - the first one in particular. I think setting up on a dodgy perch in what I assume would have been low light prior to dawn is by itself evidence of the forethought and courage sometimes required to take the most unique images (that we often take for granted in these digital days).
Bravo.
@nessiemac
Another cracking set of Downhill images that really gets the flash/daylight balance to work for the drama.
Seeing the rider's eyes is especially interesting. One of the things I miss about a lot of track based motorsport is the difficulty of catching the eyes either because of the distance from the action or the use of heavily tinted visors.

Yeah climbing up in total darkness, I think helps. You cant see the big drop of So long as you are careful you are ok but I couldnt really change gear (lens camera etc).Sorry, so involved in banter with DD about Invenice (Injoke) I just forgot to comment on the two most recent images of yours. Decided on a pre-work trip so got up at 2:45am this morning to to try and capture a sunrise at a place i'd wanted to go for a very long time. Quick and dirty processing so still needs work to remove white halo bits.

That's a lovely image. If it were me when editing I'd clone out the bird just above the rock too (just my 2p)CVP said:

Thanks very much.I was just looking at the image and wondering if that bird needed to go. It'll be going. I actually took out about 30 birds already as they were blurred.
Trying to work out how to remove the white halo from the right hand side, it's all i see when i look at it now

2 easy fixes depending on what you edit in.In lightroom its probably caused by clarity. Take an adjustment brush and set a chunky negative clarity and paint that little area.
In photoshop select the rock using the magic wand, invert the selection so you have a nice line around it. Use the clone stamp tool to clone the good clouds into the rock edge.
Oh and the 1st thing I do for any image is zoom in and scan around nuke the dust bunnies.. hint...

Thanks Rob, I'll give that a go, I couldn't work out which adjustment was causing the Halo but I'll check the clarity.In lightroom its probably caused by clarity. Take an adjustment brush and set a chunky negative clarity and paint that little area.

I've got another version that I'm working on to get rid of all the dust and such like. I cannot believe how many blotches I missed first time round!

I'm going to go with toadstool / other fungus on a piece of woodWhat do we think it is?
The uncompressed original looks like a mini lava flow on screen when editing.
I was testing a lens that has some strange focusing traits and this subject seems to have induced most of them.
