Fantastic colours Rob.

Suitably random (by my standards anyway) - an almost macro with a nifty fifty and a huge crop.

Taken at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire today - a little rough and ready, but broadly the effect I was after

I'm a beginner so go easy! I'm currently using an old Nikon D40 which a kind friend has given to me on a long term loan to see how I get on. If I continue to enjoy photography as much as I am now then I will likely invest in something of my own.

Cracking start, good comps and shooting in good light, and nailing the exposure too.

Nice pictures biggrin
The D40 is still a decent camera, not as good in low light as the latest D3xxx/D5xxx/D7xxx and it doesnt have as many megapixels, but for what you want it for (learning/getting use to using a DSLR) its a good move.
Only last week I had my D80 out and I normally use my D7100 (which is getting replaced with a D750 next week), get out and have fun taking pictures biggrin

I took Mrs Curtisl to Highclere House as part of our anniversary weekend away as she loves Downton Abbey and I got a few shots of the Castle. I only took my Canon S95 but it still impresses me when I use it.

Glen Nevis...

there was a weird and amazing contrast in the brightness of the foreground and the mountain behind as the sun broke through, making the background look almost(!) translucent.

Thanks very much. I'm hugely enjoying it and learning all the time.

Took a few today, here's some highlights;

Well. Never going to compete on the landscape front although I will try now and again. C&C welcome on my band pics.

I recently gave my D40X to a friends daughter as an intro to DSLR's. Her Dad was the one who recommended I buy it in the first place. I had a Fuji bridge camera and was interested in improving my photography. Funny thing is that now I often look back at my photos on Flickr and believe it or not the /d40x ones are some of my favourites. As said previously it won't be the low light ones.

Your composition is good, something I struggle with. I always end up cropping my pics
