Random Photos : Part 4

To some extent you can experiment with Rob's suggestions by seeing what happens with a few cropping options using an editor.
Likewise digital interpretations of colour and the overall scene are just that - interpretations. They are not always (or even often) the best result for presenting the scene as delivered to your brain through your eyes. Editing can improve on the starting point and give you something that better communicates what you believe you saw. That's good when presenting the image to others as well as for your personal recollection when you come back to those shots in years to come.
Rob posted an example of that process a few weeks ago. The various stages of making a shot taken in the Lake District much more meaningful as a rendition of the experience of the place than the camera can deliver by itself during a shutter activation that lasts for a fraction of a second. (Or even several seconds come to that ....)
Thanks very much for your comment. I am currently trying to get used to Lightroom and I guess like taking the photos, the best way is practice practice practice. I shall be back with (hopefully) better attempts.Likewise digital interpretations of colour and the overall scene are just that - interpretations. Very lucky to receive a plane flight gift voucher as a present. Took a trip over the local area, didn't have the DSLR but had my iPhone and happy with the result!

With a name like that I'd have thought you could be living in the castle rather than flying over it! Bamburgh from the Sky by WWArmstrong, on Flickr

So as a first time poster to the thread and an amateur photographer at best this is one of my better ones. Was taken just off the coast of South California, August 2013. Please do let me know what you all think, and any tips for editing it as this is a completely untouched image.
Nice pic - welcome You could try lifting the shadows a bit, add some contrast and saturation, and maybe sharpen it a bit
(ps it's a pelican isn't it?)

Thank you! Recently got a subscription to Adobe CC, so will be sure to give it a test out. You could try lifting the shadows a bit, add some contrast and saturation, and maybe sharpen it a bit

I believe so! I'm not a massive nature type, do enjoy snapping nature more than people, mind.
