Good effort! Couple of suggestions to ponder - do you use filters? You could get a better sky with a Grad filter. Or do you shoot in RAW? You can do a lot to balance the foreground and sky with adjustments to the RAW file (eg bring down the highlights and lift the shadows). Composition wise - you've got the horizon on a lower third which is good, I might have got the bale over to the left a touch and maybe got a bit lower. Minor points though and of course it's personal preference smile
Thanks for the reply! I don't use filters but do shoot Raw. I have only this week learnt about adding grad filter effect in Lightroom and I'd already edited this photo. I do know what you mean and I shall have a play and see if I can make it better. Thanks for taking time to reply and comment.

Somewhat of a colourful day here yesterday in Oregon (sunrise at Trillium Lake near Mount Hood being the rather flat exception)...

512 miles driven yesterday (Hillsboro hotel > Trillium Lake > Painted Hills > Crater Lake > Klamath Falls hotel), lets see how many get tacked onto that today (if the wildfires are still obscuring the blue waters of Crater Lake then I'll need to come up with a plan B location on the fly).

Portland Bill. I was hoping for a nice sunset but it never really happened. I'm trying to work on my composition, any comments welcomed.

Thanks fellas.

Here's another re-edit. Seemed appropriate given the date - Tornado GR4 over the Battle of Britain Memorial on the south coast.

Went to the beach in the hope of doing some more long exposures but it was so windy the camera was in danger of getting blown off the tripod.

I had spray blowing onto the lens and all in all it was a pretty miserable experience.

Best I could come up with...

Great shot Steve. Have you ever been to the island? I know nothing will be there but I really want to explore it!

I've been all the way round it really close - enough to touch it, (doing a heron survey), but have never stood on it. (nowhere easy to get on unless you are very small boat). I have spoken to some who have been on it and they say that it's REALLY difficult to traverse. Nowhere big enough to pitch a tent.
