Did you take a bite out of that butterfly's wing mid photographs?!

He's a Flotillery, apparently. Photogenic little critter settled on that flower and I was there 20 mins while he gorged himself. The composition with the two flowers was too good to miss. I wish I'd had my tripod, the shots would have been sharper with a fixed 20mm and the bokeh is more pleasing on that lens. These were taken with a 14-140 at full reach and around f6.
Had to leave in the end as my wife was getting bored.

I wouldn't have known, but it does look like bites have been taken out of each wing! Suspect it will be some evolutionary advantage.

I really like these shots, but I am going to go out on a limb here, these don't look like genuine film, or they have been scanned badly, the grain is wrong and ought to be way more highlight headroom, not a completely blown sky.

Not out on a limb at all! They are not film - simply my post-processing attempt at giving digital shots a film like quality! Well spotted! smile (I think)

It is well done, and if I had not just finished shooting a roll straight into the sun I would not have spotted it. Check the dynamic range of Ektar 100 - the sun will actually resolve into a perfect circle. I shot my D810 at exact same settings ( 1/8000 and f2 ISO 100 ) and it blew half the sky and didn't have any of the sky's colour information.

Cheers DD.

I may have been, um, a bit, er, liberal with a couple of slider thingies when processing that. Still, the file allowed me to do it so it's not my fault .... right?

I'm fairly sure that is how the party of young(ish) ladies who arrived at the quay with bottles and wine glasses to enjoy the hour or so of setting sun would have seen the colours. Seemed only fair to make it that way.

Bass Rock, Firth of Forth, Scotland

Home to a large seabird colony, especially gannets apparently. You can just about see them flying over and around the rock.

Apparently there are plans to build a couple of offshore wind "farms" nearby with the blade tips travelling at high speed right into the area of "cruising height" of a gannet when it is out fishing.

St. Monans Windmill at sunrise.

Background reading.

One might imagine the horizon decorated with a couple of wind farms at some point in the near future. That seems to be the plan.
