Singlecoil, that made me hungry. Very hungry. I'm going to break my diet and it's almost certainly your fault
Alex,If it helps your diet .... the deal is you have to catch the ingredients yourself.
One or two of them might prove challenging in that respect.
Happy dieting!

I lived in Galway (west coast of Ireland) for nine years on one of the finest salmon fisheries in Europe and yet have never caught one. I caught damn near everything else you could catch in fresh and salt water, but no salmon, and not for lack of trying either. I think the diet is easier

One little bowl of pasts surely isn't going to put you outside whatever harsh regime you are following? Anyway, if it looks nice blame Mrs SC, I just press the buttons singlecoil said:
All natural light ? After doing a local restaurant interior I was asked to tackle some food shots, kindly declined but they keep pestering me. I've messed about in the kitchen but it's damn tricky to nail.

You should do the restaurant stuff, a tripod and shooting tethered with live view and a decent sized monitor will make it easier to get good shots.

Yes, though we have the benefit of a high skylight as well as a bay window which made this shot feasible. Otherwise I would have had to set up a reflector to put some light into the bowl. I've got a couple of strobes which are great if I want to bring out the translucency of some foods, but the natural light works fine for this sort of thing.

Cheers. Bit more practise I think and I shall speak to them, the composition is where I seem to struggle - confidence is key.You should do the restaurant stuff, a tripod and shooting tethered with live view and a decent sized monitor will make it easier to get good shots.

Not noticed any composition problems in what you've posted so far, quite the reverse in fact, so I'm guessing it's more about how to set up shots featuring food. If that's the case then this video gave me some good ideas. Its main thrust is managing without expensive gear but there's a lot of useful other stuff in there.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7t_FfKFKmk
