Cheers DD. Been admiring your photos for quite some time. Never done any processing, so it would be a steep learning curve !! Asked some advice on here, and the general consensus seems to be try Lightroom, so may have to give it a go smile
thumbup That sounds like a plan! Even if you just learn basics like leveling, cropping, brightness, contrast, saturation you'll be able to make a huge improvement. I'll stick my neck out and say very very few of the best landscape togs don't do post processing smile

I agree. You can get Lightroom and Photoshop for something less than £9 a month, you won't make more difference to your photography with the same small outlay any other way. I think there's even a free trial.

Photo taken at Loch Awe. Shot in jpeg, no processing at all. What could I do to improve shots like this in the future ??

What the other said although your camera may already come with some software with which you can experiment before committing to a fully purchased alternative.

Also you can try the styles and the tuning settings that your camera will almost certainly offer. They may get you much closer to what you would like to achieve right now without the RAW learning curve.

Whilst I heartily recommend the RAW route you will be generating some work for yourself. Many of us enjoy that aspect of photography but not all.

The manufacturers provide a whole load of things to play with in camera these days and "filters" are available by the gross to manipulate things and "style" them with no need to look at RAW processing. For many people that may be enough when starting out.

I would go down the RAW route - but don't overlook the other options.

Shoot in RAW and do some processing! hehe

Sorry I'm being flippant but that would be a good start. If you have a nice scene in front of you and a composition you like then shooting RAW and doing a bit of work in Lightroom or Photoshop etc will make a world of difference smile

A 5 minute play in Photoshop could give you something like this:

Cheers DD. Been admiring your photos for quite some time. Never done any processing, so it would be a steep learning curve !! Asked some advice on here, and the general consensus seems to be try Lightroom, so may have to give it a go smile
I agree...Lightroom is the way to go.

Forgive me, but after a few Friday night beer's tonight I fired up Lightroom and tinkered with your image for 5 minutes. It really is a great piece of software. I've managed to transform relatively mundane images into something quite eyecatching.

Your shot is great by the way, I love the fact the water is so clear you can see the rocks through the water in the foreground.

Anyways...here's my Friday night drunken fumblings....

Like that Rob!

In a similar fashion here's a little video of some flying over a period of 3-4 years.

Nice bit of foreground interest in that one Dibbly, but I'm wondering about the colours a bit.
