I've had a bit of a look through your flickr, I recognise most of the south island locations and there's some dedication to your positioning in some of them! How did you get those Nugget point ones? Did you just climb straight up the side of the hill from the path? It's pretty steep! Also wish I knew how to make that boat ramp disappear at lake Rotoiti!
What was the adventure?

Nugget yes climb up the cliff, its only a few hundred meter drop off the side lol. Obviously for sunrise you do it in the dark , not sure if thats an advantage or disadvantage..

Hmm Lake Rotoiti, calm and reflections help, its shallow and sheltered there which also helps the reflections, no polariser!
The adventure was trying to walk the lake Rotoroa track, there's a very permanent looking sign at the start saying it's impassable due to windfall, to which I thought if it's that bad, they'd close it. As long as you carry a small pack and you're reasonably ok at climbing over and ducking under fallen trees, the first 2/3 really isn't too bad. After that it becomes impossible to follow the track for large sections, at worst I would estimate there are areas of fallen trees 100 feet across, they are incredibly slippery, some are rotten and in places you're crossing a canopy over 10 feet off the ground. By this point it was dark and I got lost in dense bush many times, at worst I didn't see a track marker for half an hour so I walked down a stream until I found the lake again. It was a great relief to eventually make the hut. I'd wanted to stay there as I hoped it'd be a nice sunrise, it was a calm morning, but with low cloud and light rain, not really what I'd wanted. I was saved from having to walk the track in the other direction as a very nice family gave me a ride in their jet boat. I went to DOC to tell them how bad the track was, they told me that they no longer maintain it and the last people who they know of who walked it took 2 days.

I was worried I'd get told off if I climbed up to that vantage point at Nugget point! I left disappointed when I realised they no longer use the lantern in the lighthouse and have replaced it with an LED!

I have one picture of lake Rotoiti, you couldn't see the mountains, put it that way. Another time maybe!

wow I knew that track was closed but not how bad it was! Really want to hike up to lake angelus there, need to find the time and conditions.

I think they have fenced off that bit of nugget now but people will still climb up there. We also sneak up the other road past the doc house gets you a higher vantage point.

Lake Hawea by Matt4475, on Flickr

Lake Hawea last night, this is the best compromise between ISO and exposure I can achieve and it's still nowhere near as sharp as I would like. I think F4 just isn't enough, I'd better get saving!

Sadly I'm not as that sounds fantastic. I'm off to Methven tomorrow for another winter of ski bus driving which is always good fun. Let me know if you're ever up Mt Hutt though.
