Unusual set of photographs of Chatsworth House, might be worth your while going on one of their tractor tours across the estate, though not so sure about the colour balance of several of the pics, does your camera need calibrating wink

Rob,

Scenic place isn't it!

On my screen the images are extremely yellow - less so when I go to your Flickr stream but I think that is mainly due to different compression.

Is the yellow an intentional style?

I'm assuming that they will appear the same way to others but if not I need to know so I can check at my end.

3 looks about right to my eyes.

5 is close as well and I could understand the last one for the effect. But the others just look a bit OTT.

I've seen similar effects with some of my Canon files when compressing some shades of green - seems to drop the blue and leave the yellow in some situations - bright relatively low sun for example.
I did up the temp with all the pics and the stone of the house is quite yellow anyway. If the yellow is ruining the pics, I'll go back and reduce it. Thanks for the comments thumbup

The colours were deliberate, at the time of processing, I thought they looked good, not so sure now. hehe

My 7D has never been calibrated, so possibly....

Rob,

The shot with the rather pink sky ....

I can image a sky that would look something like that as the sun starts to go down - but not quite that way.

Now I have a 600D that I bought mainly to use with manual lenses that can't use fancy focus and stuff, and that body will sometimes to odd things with clouds in bright sunlight. When at or near the limit of exposure before blowing out the white, as interpreted from a RAW file, can come out pink. Oddly if I have the camera set to take multiple shots (normal for me) and get 2 or more image in the same second not all will present that result. So same manual settings, manual lens, yet somethign different about the files recorded.

Anyway, the point of the story is that your pink sky shot looks much like the ones I get sometimes so I am wondering whether it is "real" in your case or a peculiarity of Canon!

I rented a 7D (mk1) once and shot a few thousand mainly motorsport images over a couple of weekends.

I have to say I was not overly impressed with the results - but it could have been me. The main lens I used at the time was not incredibly fast nor a fast focusing device (although I did not see it that way at the time) and I suspect that that combination was the root cause of a large number of softer than expected shots - with the odd one or two that were spot on.

That said someone kindly lent me a 70-200 L f2.8 MkII IS for a few minutes and even then I was a bit dissappointed with the results. I did buy the lens but not that camera body! (Partly because at around that time I was offered a very little used 1D3 for about the same money.)

It all seems like a long time ago ....

Here's a comparison with the original shot.

When I upped the dehaze, it brought the purple out in the sky.

A wee desaturate on the colours and it'd be perfect. IMHO of course smile

OOh, are they going to keep the Dukes of Hazard style jump in the middle?

No?

Shame, would have been fun ......

It was a year ago that I last saw it.

Drop the Vibrance way down, that's what's causing the "unnatural" feel to the image. Also I would press the reset button on that one and start again with a fresh approach. Avoid "Auto" tone and manually adjust instead, try and aim for a more realistic take on the shot with neutral tones, less colour and a more balanced contrast. Also I would be tempted to crop out much of the foreground, it's dead space and the fact it's in shadow makes it a little distracting.

I'm not sure I would crop the foreground although "treating" the shadow might be an option.

I think part of the key to capturing Chatsworth at its best is the space and the setting in the landscape.

A fairly low sun angle in the afternoon or evening is likely to make the best of it so late summer and early autumn are ideal when the weather allows. But then you will get shadows and they become part of the scene adding to it rather than detracting.

IMO.

Many thanks for the kind words, I do like the images some of these older lenses can bring..

A few of my favourite photos from a fantastic day at the RedBull Hardline race in North Wales yesterday.

Just incredible course that really challenged all the riders who took part. Well, the ones that made it to the final that is!!
