I assume that is Berlin, before the wall went up? Looks a bit tense - Any more of a story ?
pre "Wall" I suspect - lady has just entered West Berlin and the goons ain't too happy about it. IIRC there were several tense stand-offs (not to mention a lot of dead would be escapees frown) until the Wall was built (since when there were still a lot of dead would-be escapees)
I used to go out with a West German au pair. She lived a mile or two from the border, but well south of Berlin. Her grandparents were in East Germany, subsistance farmers. They used to meet up every Christmas and lots of other religious holidays and when she was a kid, her grandparents used to come to the west but as they got older, those in the west used to cross into the east. They used to walk. It was only a 'few' miles (the girl was fit in the old sense of the word. Well fit.) but they'd stay overnight.

This was around 1965, at the height of the dispute over the border.

She was a bit touchy about the Berlin wall and I never broached the subject of why, if there were no guards in the lumpy bits, refugees didn't cross there.

West Germans were allowed, relatively freely, to cross into the East to visit family or for business, and East German pensioners could also get permits to cross to the West
