It's a real shame that it got such a bad reputation for the perceived shortcomings of the AF speed - entirely as a consequence of people who'd never used it regurgitating what they've read on internet forums.
Totally agree, but if it's that reputation that has led to poor sales and me being able to buy one from Argos for an almost give away price, then I can live with that smile

Had a little outing this morning to have a proper play with mine and am still very impressed overall.

I've found one and reserved it at a branch 18 miles away, I'm on a day off tomorrow, will pop over and collect it.

£149 in Curry's now, or £249 including the 22mm

I have no need for one but it still took a lot of restraint to leave the shop without one.

Servo AF is a touch 'iffy' but, again, biased reviews by the few swayed the many. On a day-to-day basis, this is an extremely easy camera to live and work with and bar a few small niggles, out-guns my G15 (surely the G series has had its day?)

On another note - going off our local Argos store guide (within a 40 mile radius) it appears Pistonheaders have descended on Argos in numbers because they've gone from having availability in all stores of both Black and White bodies at the start of this week to having sold out of all the white with only two stores having black available...

Obviously, we realise there's an awful lot of camera there for the money....

It's a bit bulky as pocket camera and the viewfinder was not a deal-breaker for me at least - hence the M.
On the subject of pocket-sized, I was wondering whether to put a filter on my 22 and do away with the lens cap. Not a huge issue but if it makes it easier to get in and out of the case ..

P.S. With regards to the deluge of EOS-M deals and the timing of thread - don't work for Canon (if I did I'd have got an M2!) I needed a travel camera for upcoming holiday and hurt my knee.

So tempting but I really don't need it. Must resist.

If it could replace my Canon S110 I would have bought one by now and sold that on. It's just not quite small enough, even with the 22mm, to do that job though.

Seems to be. Only spotted it when I wandered in by chance at lunchtime.

Yep - I can live with it too, I bought mine for a great price from DigitalRev a few months ago too.

But I really would like to see Canon continue to invest in the format - if I had confidence that they would and there would be more EF-M lenses coming and new bodies as sensor and AF capability evolves - then I'd be happy to make it my primary system, I'd immediatly sell my EF-S 10-22 and replace it with the EF-M 11-22 and replace my other EF and EF-S lenses as EF-M equivalents become available.

But since Canon have had to take a hit with dumping these great cameras at firesale prices - I don't have enough confidence that Canon aren't going to cut their loses and the format will have no future. That would be a shame.

Fingers crossed they stick with the format long term. It's really popular in Asia, hence the EOS M2 only being available over there. Rumours are the M3 launch isn't too far off, so I'm guessing that has something to do with the firesale like pricing as Canon try to offload any remaining stock.

And another new EF-M format lens announced recently too (EF-M 55-200) - so maybe I'm being overly pessimistic.

Hopefully a EF-M mount 17-55 f/2.8 soon and the native lens lineup will be looking pretty good.

If the M3 has the vastly improved liveview AF from the 70D - then it'll be a great system and I'll sell my 7D to get one.

Tamron have finally stepped into the fray with an 18-200 F/3.5-6.3 lens. Mind you, Canon have apparently gone down the cheap route with their 55-200 as it's an all plastic affair including the the mount which is a shame considering the near excellent build quality of the first three M lenses...

Does anyone have any experience with the 3rd party EF adaptor rings?

A little bonus I just discovered is that the little 90EX speedlite that came in the kit can act as an optical master for any Canon IR controlled flash too. Not sure if I'll be doing any off camera flash work with this camera, but nice to know it can without having to use my Pocket Wizards smile

I've just got one from Currys, they're doing the kit, plus the Canon EF/EF-S adaptor for £210.

Really helpful in store, they hadn't the camera, only the adaptor so I've got that and am heading across town to the other store to pick the camera up.

Useful to know about using it as a master. I am going to give it a whirl with my Quadra Rangers, it should work fine but will be useful to know.

Don't seem to have anything at my local store - Milton Keynes - did they have to dig around in the store room for it?

I'm after the 22mm kit with ef adaptor

It wasn't online, I went into the store and they had to look at the other store nearby for stock.

I have to say I'm terribly impressed, what a great little camera, the build quality feels very good, the AF is fine, I wouldn't want to shoot Le Mans with if but fine for day to day, especially when the majority of my shots are on a tripod and fairly lengthy jobs.

I've even had it set up with a 24mm ts-e, 135mm f2 and a speedlite 550ex!

I suspect it's going to get a lot of use as a travel cam and backup when using my canon gear, I might even move my current 1ds2 backup cam on.

If anyone's interested - the Lowepro Dashpoint 20 is a perfect fit for the M with the 20mm lens attached.

Slightly bulky to walk around with the Dashpoint attached to a belt - but still a practical way to carry it as a weekend and holiday walkaround, which is what I do.

Thought I'd miss having a built in flash when carrying it around as an everyday/night walkaround - but sharp f/2 and clean ISO 3200 makes it unecessary.
