Can anyone suggest a waterproof camera for around £200?, we want to use it for general holiday pics and some snorkelling.

Have seen that the go pro is popular, but is that more for video?

I can't.

Don't get a Fuji because I've had two (the second under warranty) and they both leaked and died.

Cheap underwater cameras don't appear to work for me.

I was wondering this a few months ago too

I went for an Olympus TG-2 and so did another relative on the same holiday, it survived and took reasonable picures.

Our Nikon AW100 and it's replacement under warranty both leaked and died. The latest Nikon AW cameras look identical, avoid IMO. I believe all waterproof cameras are a leaking timebomb so don't count on it lasting! I didn't find a review of a camera in the £100-300 price range that hadn't had an amazon review of it leaking.

I've had an old Olympus tough for about 5 years and has been great. Picture quality isn't great and really slow to focus but has been thrown around a lot

The Pentax (now Ricoh?) W series get great results, above and below the surface.

Had 4, never had a problem with any of them.

I had a Panasonic FT1 years back for holidays. Worked perfectly under water, video quality (720p) was reasonable. 4.6x optical zoom was handy. Picture quality was good enough for a double page spread in a blurb photo book I did years back (although most of the pics were taken with a DSLR).

My ex still uses it for various holidays, and despite now being 5 years old it works perfectly.

No reason to believe that the subsequent models will be any different. The FT4 can be had for under £200

I bought one of these for my Panasonic TZ5, worked well snorkeling and in pools and picture quality was still good, as long as you got the lense lined up properly.

The GoPro is more for video, but I use mine mainly for stills, unless you buy the optional rear screen you can't see what you're shooting and it is a very wideangle fish eye view, which may not be what you are after.

If you're due a phone upgrade anytime soon I'd consider having a play with the Sony Xperia series before you shell out any money. I've not used my Z1 underwater but day to day the quality is pretty respectable.

I was researching these last year and came to the conclusion that I should just get a decent compact camera & get a waterproof case for it.

Use my gopro for all my holiday snaps - perfect, and the software will undo the fish eye effect.

I had a Panasonic FT10 waterproof, dustproof, shockproof camera for several years until recently.

Good image quality (for a compact) and survived well in many downpours in my motorbike jacket. I really regret selling it now.

To add a thought, I use a Liteproof case for my iphone which is good to 5m.

No issues in the couple of years I've been using it and the iPhone 5 takes pretty good pictures yes
