The Larmor one seems very good. If like me you start using it and think you can't see the screen anymore there's a 'bright sunlight' setting in the menu options which improves matters greatly.

So had a little play with the camera last night - boy it's bright!! Need to get my tripod out tonight and go down Poole Quay or Sandbanks for some proper attempts but I am amazed at how good this camera is in the dark with no flash! It feels great in the hand and I love the brightness of the EVF.

My big Q now is processing software. I really am starting from scratch on this so would I be best starting out with something like Lightroom 5, learning that properly over the next year and then, if required, moving onto something like Photoshop (elements)?

Thanks!

Lightroom and Photoshop are two different programs for different purposes.

Want to polish a single image to perfection? Use Photoshop. Want to edit images quickly in batches, organise them, store them and export them to various sources? Use Lightroom.

Lightroom should do almost all the editing that you require and will be a lot quicker to use than Photoshop. Unless you get in to really complicated things like composite images or fine-art printing it will likely be all you ever require.

Cheers! That was my understanding.

Is there a good book anyone would recommend for Lightroom?

Or best off with online tutorials?

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 - The Missing FAQ by Victoria Bampton looks like a good buy!

Minor heads up- went to John Lewis outlet in Swindon today and they had a few ex-display or similar RX100s at good savings!

So does anyone have the Canon PowerShot G7X yet?

I'm starting to find my Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ9 (with Leica-designed lens) very lacking - the pictures it takes are always poorly focussed, noisy, fuzzy and overall not particularly good. Which is a shame as it had pretty good reviews when I bought it.

I was thinking it might be time to trade up a bit. I'm tempted by the Canon PowerShot G7X which is being compared favourably in reviews to the Sony Cybershot RX100 III (despite being significantly cheaper; it's around £450 compared to the Sony being around £640).

The Canon appeals to me because my DSLR is a Canon 650D and also the price. However, some reviews are criticising the Canon for poor auto-focus and poor battery life.
Or I could look for a previous generation Sony Cybershot RX100 (I or II) which is a comparable price to the Canon.

I responded on the other thread... but be aware RX100 mk 1 is now MUCH cheaper. Seen under £300.

Thanks. I realised after I created that thread that it was more appropriate to ask in this one. I've requested that the new one be deleted (Edit: and indeed it appears it has been now).

Yes, I've noticed that the RX100 Mk1 is much cheaper now. The Mk2 is of equivalent price to the Canon, and the Mk3 is significantly more expensive.

They are all using a 1" sensor so if you like Canon (colours, LCD screen, menu) then makes sense to get another Canon I would have thought. The lens is also top notch in the Canon. I ditched my RX100 for an EOS-M so a bit biased towards Canon(!)

I bought an RX100 after reading rave reviews, mainly on here. It does take a good picture and is miles better than me, but it does throw it's dummy out now and then.

Leave it on charge, take 2 pictures and the battery is mysteriously flat.

Take a few pictures with a mahoosive memory card and it decides the card is full. Leave it for an hour or so and it forgets all about the previously "full" memory card.

Never had that in 5000 photos. I'd update the firmware, I'm pretty sure it'll sort it.

Check out my thread about RX100 for my comparison between it and the g7x. In short - I sent the RX100 back and am happily using G7x

As mentioned, see which camera is considered the best by http://dpreview.com

I seriously considered the G7X as it is a really good buy, but it didn't suit my needs. It will suit others.

Indeed. Always the way with recommendations and the like.

It's good to know that it is at least comparable with the MX-5 of compact cameras. biggrin

I have a RX100 Mk2 over a year and half and I quite like it. Particularly good for low-light shootings.
