August 2014 Monthly Photo Comp. entry - black&white
Discussion
The topic for this month is: black and white
Fairly open topic, looking to see what people have done in black and white photography - low saturation or monochromatic images fine too.
This thread is for entries only
Good Luck!
Khalid
Rules:
The photos taken must be your own work
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month
There will be two threads that need starting: The Entries thread to commence same time as Discussion thread. In the Entries thread only one picture should be entered. Any others you wish to discuss should be posted in the Discussion thread.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

I think this is my first entry on one of these, and as it's Pistonheads, I'll throw this one in I think:

Ok all, thank you for the entries. A good number of participants and happy to say all the images have good qualities in them.
So, here are my picks, in 3rd place I picked christopha200's image of the classic racing car:
Revival '12 1930s BW Autounion by christopha 200, on Flickr
Technically, the highlights a little too bright however I like the contrasty lighting and the image overall invokes an interesting story and leaves the viewer intrigued about the number 5 car and the driver/mechanic standing over it.
2nd place goes to Morbid for this cute little thing:
Beautiful soft lighting and depth of field and captured a strong pose. I can't decide if I like the close crop to engage the viewer with the cat's stare more than cutting off bits of the cat at the bottom. Help's that i have a thing for cats!
Ok now for the winner. Honestly I'm a cat man rather than dog, but this image is really cool. Lovely wide aperture image, caught a great strong pose, lovely composition and the black and white processing is perfect imo.
Congrats to Pete Baraka
